  • It's really cool, where does it come from?

Is it an auto-tiling bitwise based method?!

  • Hello again, Miss ! Your attitude is far from that of those, so many, wich don't even bother to consult the documentation, available resources, dissect capx, or even start a search via a search engine or forums. I believe that this third type of person there is the worst and that it would be necessary to create a pop-up tutorial just and only in an effort for them to learn to be a little more autonomous, which seems absolutely not to be your case, like I suppose nobody here!

Here one of my secret weapon, it allowed me to learn a lot and still today:

I just type on Google "scirra" followed by "all desired keywords I need".

I even sometimes combine with the term "capx" if I'm looking for sources.

Okay, it sometimes takes lot of work but with patience = guaranteed results.

In fact, I think we are all in the same boat, cause in game design, nothing seems ever won and obstacles still to be overcome, which can indeed and in the end, some days, be quite discouraging or even depressing, especially during first steps, not to mention our life to manage in this sick world of money, money, money. It is also, unfortunately, one of the way of cross that we have all freely chosen by launching ourselves into a so exciting and fascinating adventure, no matter the slogan.

Slogan that may need to be improved:

    No Programming Required! (*)

    * But it's better if you have a coder logic (**)

** And if you don't have it, you'll learn to have it (***)

    *** Etc, etc, lol!

That said, and as underlined here, there is also a truly friendly and supportive community, often busy, sometimes silent as a wall, but ready to help when topics and difficulties are well posed. Why, and in the case of your mathematical example, not just create a function to achieve what you want to improve? At least, the case is filed!

To tell you the truth, I know perhaps how to code (although this does not mean anything any more today, given the increasing number of new languages ??and technologies every day - it's for me a sort of trendy recruiters fantasy), but if you knew how many days and nights I have spent working on ridiculous features that in my imagination and on paper were so simple and drawn in minutes. This actually does completely lose the head, especially with fatigue and sometimes a feeling of loneliness. In short, I always feel like starting from scratch, even though I have necessarily made progress, like all of us, and at the cost of many efforts.

Besides and frankly, whenever I use Construct2, I have the feeling to code, but with hands attached, this creates a form of frustration because if this model was unbridled, I will have an incredible saving of time and logic. In my wildest dreams, it might be necessary to implement a mode to be able to switch from a graphical view to a pure code view (in both directions), with a system of verification of the syntax and validation as precise as it is with the event sheets and as we know it today, and also create an accessible language for everyone, and for all levels. New slogan: Learn to code with C3! A sort of "gamification" aspect of the things. I'm sure they've already thought about it and it's possible cause Scirra's products are so thought and patterns very respectful of standards, which in the end always impressed me cause I didn't know initially how it was the case.

It's a little bit the problem exposed here, but reversed, and my new very special query for you and this year, Ashley!

Nice helena your idea of ??wiki, an official one, why not with a reliable system, well standardized and known like MediaWiki (the famous engine of Wikipedia) to which all certified users could participate. This would also make it easier to update contents and to translate into several languages. It may be a beginning of solution, there are certainly others... But what a supplementary colossal task!

After all I don't know, but I think Ashley, Tom and the others may burnout these days, because many of us, me the first, are a bit nervous and/or so demanding with our requests, even the most legitimate ones like your one, are so many, so I hope that it's not them that we are going to push in self-destruction mode, otherwise we would look very uncomfortable without our favorite tool and their parents!

Sorry, it was a bit long, I hope my frog eater prose is sufficiently digestible.

NB: I hate, like most French, eat poor frogs, still another myth. Croak and peace!

  • Ashley, it would be really-really cool to be able to customize the default color of each tab in event sheet and layout properties. Actually, I have been waiting for this feature for a long time and with the arrival of this on the events, I was surprised not to see it implemented.

    Maybe in a future update?

  • I have done a more complete tour since the last time, and I begin to love it more and more, you can take, as has long been expected, my money too. Impatient to discover the full version and all the features (still a few blemishes about standalone windows native version, the absence of multi-layer TMX support on tilemaps, amongst other things, but we will come back to it in due course).

  • Hello and sorry but I think your approach and your question are surprising! However, and according perhaps to your level, I must admit to understand them. But you know, the purpose of a manual is to be a features and usages reference, not to take people by the hand until creating their project in their place. Personally, I presume it will be very close but better than the current one, and Scirra will also make it as complete and clear as possible, like they have always done (look a bit on the side of the competition, the bar still remains relatively high). This is one reason why I never really agreed with the famous adage "create your games without knowing how to code", it takes serious experience, and it also comes with curiosity but above all with hard work.

  • Ok everyone, all these contributions are very interesting!

But why post on this thread and not open a new one?

It seems that they are a "little" bit off topic, isn't it?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Thanks Ashley, It's done, but, I can't say why... It's very instinctive, but I've never felt comfortable with web apps compared to native apps. Especially if it's a software with so advanced possibilities, even in full screen mode, even without browser toolbars. I must admit hardly imagine developers on Unity, doing a herculean work with Chrome without becoming completly crazy before closing everything.

In addition, I'm a sort of mad clicker, using all the time keyboard shortcuts to copy/paste, find everything quickly, swap between the entire pipeline, close windows, etc. I like to see my tools as independent but obedient soldiers with everything in its right place. This is something, for me and probably in my habits, more robust and secure than other else modern web stuff and which on the other hand avoids me from committing many errors of manipulation.

In any case, and even if I have not yet been able to take all the time desired to test the new draft, I will try to make efforts cause, after all, you deserve it with a real and incontestable talent. And I have forgotten to mention it: this promise of C3 seems very neat and bring some rather revolutionary innovations for the future and the quality of our projects. I understand that this can also represent a considerable cost to you in terms of maintenance at many levels. Just do not forget us for the standalone version, I guess I'm not the only one hoping for that.

Damn, where is my floating tab now?

  • Thanks Tom and everyone, I hope, to have understood, indeed, this change, like you said, radical. Will we ask tomorrow and for example designers to create on Photoshop, Flash or other with one or more tabs in Chrome, Firefox or Opera? For past two years, I have sacrificed, bet, a lot of my time and life to master gamedesign "alone" to death by choosing your software rather than other solutions whose names I will pass, and I finished, at the price of many misery, to end up finding my place in terms of development, creativity, originality, performances, and professionalism. I like squared and optimised things, I'm a perfectionist and I have long waited for improvements worthy of the name, so this C3 represents for me a form of Holy Grail. Many things with C2 have for a long time disturbed me, in particular terms of features on events (I am a pro coder after all and at the base), editions of images, layers, ergonomics also and so on, "etc"... I hope that all this work will not be in vain, and will not find itself overnight disintegrates in the air just for money cloud fashion.

  • It's difficult to express my first feelings, english is not my native language. But there is - for me - not the same comfort. It's a window with web based windows in a browser, the feeling is not the same. I am so sorry dear Tom to have this first "à priori", but comfort is not at all what I expected. I have to take a step back to really test in depth what you propose. But I must confess that ergonomy - from my point of view - will never be the same in a browser than with your previous standalone software, and that is my personal and professional point of view for now. I know you heard that afterwards and that the standalone version will come, allowed me while waiting to worry. Hey, justifun, I'm not a ****king hater, I want the best for Scirra and I will, and hope be here, for them too. Thanks Ashley for the last trick, I will try to switch to desktop mode while continue testing the browser mode.

  • Cause this browser based thing is at first glance and usage just horrible.

I love you Scirra, but sorry, it's enough for me, where is the software?

  • The Newgrounds logo has a very impressive big gear in the hands too.

More seriously, it must be linked to validation or other technical things.

  • Oh yeah, and hoping all our biblic looted stuff will help us to avoid exorcism.
