  • Auto-updates are nice, even though I have turned them off, because first I wan't to make sure that the installed plugins works with the new version.

Ok then, Ashley I think we've found the bug.

updated the description and all required information is given. (Teleport me there!)

We hope you find and fix the bug as soon as you got a break from working on C3.

Thanks for the fast response to all of my questions and thanks for reporting

this else I would've just go on using C2 with this issue forever.

(P.s. you can also add Windows 7 with the latest drivers and updates installed in the description, thx.)

  • Thank you g3nki and TheRealDannyyy!

G3nki, could you test what TheRealDannyyy said about Steam Overlay affecting autosave, and post here?

TheRealDannyyy, if i understand your point, there is no difference between Scirra and Steam versions, at least as regards the functionality of Construct 2, isn't it? Btw, which version do you have?

    Best wishes!

The most of the disadvantages are true.

I bought a personal license because I use Steam all the time and it also gives you the comfort not to check for updates every time you start C2, Steam autoupdates C2 for you at the same time as the update has been released here. (It even says that your C2 has been updated and asks you if you want to see the changelog.)

You can also change to the beta of C2 at anytime by just a few clicks which is nice too.

So if you are more the Steam guy like I am, I recommend the C2 version on Steam because from the game development side, it is exactly the same as on the website.

However if you are up for sales and want to grab it cheaper than usual you should wait for a scirra store price drop which happens sometimes. (Christmas deals etc.)

That is not true, you can play games and have C2 running all the time.

(In the past were applications were introduced to Steam was a limit for that but they changed it about 2 weeks after that.)

  • One last thing before giving this bug over to ASHLEY.

In the past there were some bug reports about the Steam release where the Steam Overlay affected functions of C2, maybe

the overlay is affecting the autosave function this time?

I think you are using C2 more than I do currently, might want to test it out with disabling the Steam Overlay while autosave is enabled?

(How to: Right click on C2 in your library > Click on propeties > Uncheck the checkbox which says "Activate Steam Overlay Ingame")

If this is not "fixing" the bug either, we can be sure that this is a C2 bug and not Steam.

  • > I'm not sure about this but I think that autosaving might cause this, at least I enabled it and set it to every 5 min. and this issue for me at least seem to happen about every 5 min. I dont want to say that IT IS the autosave function but it might be? (I will test it and check if it is the autosave to make sure...)

    >

I tried it out this evening and once I disabled to autosave it actually works like a charm! (though still under evaluation) The autosave frequency could be an explanation to the different "stages of sluggishness" that I am experiencing.

Please continue and share your experiences with this problem. Try out the "disable autosave"-workaround and share your thoughts about it, perhaps we can help Ashley isolate the bug.

So I'm pretty sure now it is the autosave function for me at least.

But there is a little more I think I found out about it, in bigger projects it tends to slutter more.

I guess C2 autosave creates some sort of "trash" every time it autosaves the project which leads to more sluggish behavior and freezing. (The more it autosaves in a session the more sluggish it gets)

    1. Are you using a compressed .capx or do you save it as a project folder? (In my case project folder)

    2. Do you have a dual monitor setup? (just curious about that, maybe C2 has issues with this kind of setup)

P.s. I still cannot explain why minimizing and reopening helps for me at least maybe it leads to some sort of "reset" but I'm not sure about that at the time.

  • The thing that bothers me is what C2 and/or Steam are acually doing to cause this issue?

I mean a license check or something like that cannot cause so heavy lags or even freezing can it?

I'm not sure about this but I think that autosaving might cause this, at least I enabled it and set it to every 5 min. and this issue for me at least seem to happen about every 5 min.

I dont want to say that IT IS the autosave function but it might me? (I will test it and check if it is the autosave to make sure...)

  • I have the same issue still in the recent r212.2 version of C2.

To be honest it never really annoyed me "that" much,

I usually minimize and open the C2 window and the lags or freezes are mostly gone after doing that.

  • Tested it, since Firefox is the most common browser for me to be used for previewing.

It works perfect on my device, it could be an issue on your device only.

Perhaps you should wait for more testing by other users.

(Be patient, everybody especially Ashley is quiet busy the most of the time)

  • I never really done that before but I can confirm this too.

  • ... it just highlights that perhaps there is some issue with Cordova/XDK, and they can be improved...

That is right but Ashley do you really think that this will happen in the next months or even years?

The only thing that kinda helped with another issue (the size of the apps) has been slighly improved 1 or 2 weeks ago and this issue with the size was there since the beginning of Cordova (Crosswalk) compiling/exporting.

I do even think before cordova gets a performance fix update, mobile browsers like mozilla or chrome will be able to run the apps smoother and overall better than cordova does at the time.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Sry, sry, sry, for off topic again (but the context )!

Hmmm, when he make this, i think i delete/cancel all my projects and contact steam for moneyback! In the adverts of construct scirra says: "you can make Smartphone/mobile games..... but you can´t it with this aggravating circumstances! There are a complete half year of hard work. I have on many Third Party tools with give my personal dats registration, have my project registred as the local goverment because the taxes when i (make money), have make an interview-video, learned Blender 3 months every day lot of hours (lot of books and learn-DVDs, have a dropbox-account only to upload my (finish) games, have canceled a girlfriend because the projects cost lot of time, blame on friends because there are not solutions of my game..... spend 100s of hours to design the pinballtable, have reading in this forum heavy shitstorms about me that i am an idiot who people are think, i am thinking with c2 i can make the new far cry, other users lie, that they projects on mobile are run. I have say to ashley every and every time that it gives problems with the physics. no message..... i have blind make optimize it (shitting worklflow!!!!!). And after weeks he post a small message that he will cancelled Cocoon JS physics. Why have he say it sooooo late? ludei is weeks here for support (thx for this, great work). All for nothing! But belive me ashley, i swaer you (when szymek has right), that become you back! Thats near at crime and deception what you are make! i give you 329 $ because you have wrong promise about what we can make with c2. I used software scince the c64. But what i have here for experience is the biggest shit in my virtual history! I dont now, what you define as correct right/law..... but my definition for your handling about this situation in that you bring me: deception!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes, in my older posts i have say, give a statement please. You have it not make. I give you now one week, than you activate my next hard steps! And belive me. I have registred in over 100 GameDevForums last night. Have a big plan! Actually i write my dissatisfaction only on this forum here..... for the moment...... A documention about this shit is only a weekend of work. Sry for this hard step, but i dont know what i can still make! I say it again: essentially you have make a wonderful software.... but when i want wrapped/Comile its only the Torso without a head! And when you angry about my aggresiv posts, i can tell you at pn why (all human behavior has a basement.... often very private)!

    nice day!

I fully understand you and your thoughts about C2. Construct 2 is a nice editor which is working great but the end product (the videogame) is mostly not.

Construct 2 shows the concept of HTML5 games working well on certain high end devices such as PC's, Mac's and others, but mobiles...

Those times will come, when mobiles got enaugh power to run this kind of games well. ludei is the last hope that keeps me on the C2 train.

If Ludei jumps of the train and stops supporting C2 I don't see any reason to keep on using C2 for mobile games.

For now you should consider using other engines such as "Unity" (Advanced) or the strange, almost equally looking "Clickteam Fusion 2.5" (Equal to C2's skill-level)

P.s. I mean seriously look at Clickteam Fusion 2.5 it almost looks and works exacly like C2 but it has native exporters and more features that C2 does not have at the time.

  • paradine - as I keep saying, many games we see are GPU bottlenecked, so would not run faster in a native engine.

Ashley you know that this is not true, even if the projects of some users are poorly optimized, the examples provided with C2 are not.

And even they work not well with the most of mobiles using XDK or Phonegap. (15 to 30 FPS default even if the game at runs the same speed you can still see the visual differences between 60 and 30 fps)

The good thing is that the new Canvas+ by ludei is working well on mobiles even if the exporting process has some more steps that you have to do manually.

I don't want to offend any solution for the exporting process containing mobile gaming, but it seems like Cocoon.io seems to be the better than Crosswalk at the time.

(But I don't want to open another disscussion about this because there are already over 100 of this kind...)
