  • Hey, thanks again guys, I kept screwing around and found a simple way, no Physics required:

(hmm is there a trick to adding an image to a post, can't seem to paste anything in. Guess that's an attachment?)

If Player overlapping object at offset (0,2), then Player set Platform Vector Y to -800

    cheers,

  • HI,

Two questions. First, how can I stop the ScrollTo function from running. On the bottom level of a multi-leveled platform stage, I want to have the Player jump into a hole and have the ScrollTo not follow him. I think it has to do with Y and LayoutHeight, but I can't figure out which way Y runs... is it at Zero on the bottom of the layout and increasing positively upwards, or negatively? I've tried Y greater than LayoutHeight + 50 but not getting anywhere....

Second, how do I adjust the ScrollTo function so that it does not center the Player. I'd like to show more area above the player's head permanently as they navigate through the levels. I figure this is also maybe a System adjustment.

    Any suggestion appreciated,

    thanks

  • Hmm. And if I didn't want to make the platform bouncy by using physics? Feel like there should be a materials property to a solid...

Sol, in your code bits above, the option to Apply Force, is that contextual if you have Physics applied to the platform block?

    thanks,

    M

  • Try Construct 3

  • Hi, working on my platform game, playing around with the Physics behavior but having no luck creating a bouncy platform block. So it's a solid, an object that when you jump on it gives an upward bounce effect. Is there another behavior that would do this, like a 'material' behavior?

    thanks,

    M

  • Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked and there was an update for my graphics drivers, I updated but no change. Seems strange that it only affects the Main area. I've also tried a different monitor, it made no difference.

Really enjoying this software so will probably buy it, but wish it wasn't so tough on the eyes!

    cheers,

  • Hi codah,

Show Grid off does take the grid away... but these lines persist, they aren't part of the grid.

Not having any error messages whatsoever, this has been the look of the application since I first downloaded it.

    Another pic, with grid off:

  • Hi,

I'm using the demo version of Construct 2, latest version. I plan to upgrade at christmas, but something has been bugging me for last couple months. I assumed it would go away once I upgraded, now I'm now so sure. The layout has gray vertical lines covering everything, they are there always and on each new project I create. Is there a way to get rid of them? Do they go away once you upgrade? I've been dealing with it but really its starting to be eyesore. The lines are not there when previewing the game.

    Screenshot attached,

    thanks,

    Matt

  • Thanks for sending that link, good stuff in there.

  • Hi,

What's the best way to design your background for a platform game? Specifically, I like a tiled pixel look, and I understand that if I put the same tile down many times to make the floor, for example, that is an efficient way to design because it's using 1 tile to create a large area. But what if I want a very uneven surface, like the slope leading towards a pit that tumbles down into a cave. Seems like I would many several different variations on that tile to create such a surface. What if I just draw out whole floor/surface of this world in GIMP as pixel art and import and set it as a Solid, then add another layer underneath for the color of the sky. Is that bad game design?

    thanks,

    Matt

  • That was it, thanks Aphrodite. I kept messing with my display settings in Windows thinking that was the problem, didnt think to check the manual controls for the monitor. Got this thing used, never really messed with the settings,

    cheers,

    Matt

  • Hi, fairly new to Construct 2, working through the tutorials, finding the book Construct 2 Game Development by Example to be quite good.

Wondering why my monitor dimms down when I Run Layout (Chrome launches and shows the game and the brightness level of my monitor goes to near complete darkness).

This only happens when I have a very dark image as the background. It first came up when I tiled a space sprite for a space shooter background.

If I click on another browser tab, this one for example, the brightness level returns to normal.

any ideas would be very welcomed,

    thanks,

    Matt
