I agree, Node Type Systems are often times just as complex as learning how to program in the first place...

Does GMS2 also come with a visual scripting editor? I couldn't find any details about that.

They already had that but pretty much all use GML but i think with the new Version they're planning on an Update for the visual System although i have no idea how it will look exactly and highly doubt that it'll be as flexible as C2's.

CTF was always more of an "ugly" version of C2 for me, If they plan to clean it up a little for their 3rd version, it might be a serious competitor.

They've released some videos on YouTube about it and started a developers Blog. Didn't really impress me very much i don't like their event system as much as i do C2's.

Now Godot 3.0 is something that Scirra should really worry about, not only is it open source (FREE!) but it could also easily compete with C2's editor in terms of usability. The major thing that was kinda missing is the visual scripting editor. Now it seems like it's about to be added, this might be interesting to follow.

EDIT: Of course there are also other problems and errors that need to be fixed too.

Have you ever tried the Editor? It's far from as easy to use as Construct's in my opinion...

I think there's always a tendency to look for the "perfect engine". It happens on every user forum of all the mentioned software packages that i've ever been to. There are always things that could be better or optimized etc. I think there are a lot of people who never start actually making a game, because they keep looking at different game engines every other week. I know i had that problem for much too long. In the end what counts is, which tool makes you actually realize your project the quickest and most convenient to you, which is very subjective. For me PERSONALLY i really always came back to C2 because i didn't see any other program, where i could get something done so easily and still remain a great deal of flexibility. So i'll stick around for sure and i'm looking forward to see what C3 will offer

Will C3 get some shiny new Plugins Behaviours and maybe incorporate some of the great stuff the users here have developed already?

  • Noisefever Thanks! Unfortunately that's already settled but thanks for the offer nonetheless

  • Funny, Home was a major inspiration for me as well and i'm currently making a kinda game like that as well... Although it has some more "advanced" stuff if you want to call it like that like an inventory etc. but the sidescroller horror vibe is definitely still going on

  • Thank you all so much Really encouraging.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I pixelled the main cast of characters Alex and her three friends, that are gone missing.

  • After a little bit of a hiatus i picked the game up again and am working slavishly on new backgrounds Here's the latest one (the inside of an abandoned cabin).

  • She can run and punch now Making quite some progress. From Friday on i've got two weeks off from work and will hopefully get as much done on the project as possible. (sorry for the weird colors, my Screengrab/Gif converter somehow screws them up a little).

  • My game probably isn't "huge" when it comes to logic (it's a sidescrolling horror-survival game) but it uses quite a lot of effects and animations and so far i haven't had any issues previewing in NW.js... And C2 never crashed on me once.

My perspective is this: i see these kind of performance posts and threads pop up all the time and it made me doubt my engine of choice in the past but first, as i said, i've never experienced any difficulties so far and second: I'm not a coder. I've tried my hand at many game creation software, a lot of them who are being discussed on here regularly. I always returned to C2, because it's the only package where i got the results i wanted and which has the most intuitive UI in my opinion (i'm not just talking about the Event Editor but about the UI in general).

So i had two options: either make my game using software that i feel comfortable with and end up with SOMETHING in the end, maybe risking some headaches when it comes to performance or whatever OR go with a software that i don't even like and, probably, give up in the end because i'm too simple-minded to use it and have no game done.

Easy choice for me. No engine is perfect. Often times you trade ease of use for features and vice versa. But if you browse any forum, GameMaker, Unity, Stencyl etc., you'll see that there are always complaints by the users. So yeah, if you still want some flexibility in your game and not just some templates where you can paste your own graphics in, it really doesn't get much easier to achieve your dream than C2.

  • Both are free... I don't know, i think what tunepunk said definitely has some value to it as well The engine itself gives you all the tools you need, to make a successful title, it all depends on the talent behind the screen. You wouldn't attribute Picasso's Talent to his brushes or pens either.

  • What are the famous Buildbox Games?

Well, GameMaker has been around since 1999 so it's Userbase is larger and more proficient in the tool already. The more people use the Software, the higher the Chances that one of the games coming out is going to be a success

  • Thank you so much for the prompt reply!!
