Notes

This week we have some more great updates for you: first of all there's now new properties to set a template to use when dragging and dropping an instance from the Project Bar to the Layout View. This means you can now choose which instance is the default one that is created this way. This release has a range of other improvements for the Layout View, including improved support for hierarchies, and some usability fixes.

The Animations Editor has also had its sprite sheet import dialog overhauled, and now it's much more powerful. If you've ever had to deal with spritesheets that have multiple animations spread across a single image, the new import dialog allows you to choose ranges of frames to import, helping manage this case much more easily. It's also got a variety of other tools to help you manage importing spritesheets, so take a look and try it out.

Another nice addition in this release is that when adding a new object, behavior, or effect, you can now use a pin to top option to make your favorites always appear at the top of the dialog for quicker access. There's also two great new examples to check out!

Please note: this is our last scheduled beta release of the year. The team will be taking a well-earned break over the next couple of weeks, during which time there will not be any beta releases and support may be limited. We'll be back to normal in early January.

  • Blazin'! Thanks for the year of awesome updates, Scirra. Have a good break & happy new year :)

  • Can we still import spritesheet by defining column/row count ? Can't find it.

I always loved that Construct asked to import by column/row count and hated the process in other softwares that asks to define individual frames width/height dimensions.

Column/Row is the way Construct always worked before, it's much more intuitive and it's easier to count them directly on the spritesheet preview, rather than calculating individual frame/dimension or doing the trial/error way of guessing the dimensions in many steps.

Would be great if the default would stay column/row count and to be able to switch to frame dimensions using a toolbar button

(the new importer crashes a lot so maybe i missed something)
