  • DarKeX More than likely you would encounter a problem if you started to sell your game. If it's free then gun manufacturers would only have a weak case in court (arguing 'fair use' on your part is guaranteed, it's how people get around putting music on YouTube).

    However, if you're wanting to earn money from your game, and are also wanting to use the real names of the guns, you will have to get licencing rights from each individual gun manufacturer, and I remember reading a while ago that it isn't cheap. The alternative is to do what alspal suggested and use a name that is similar to the real name of the gun, that way you conveniently side-step the issue altogether, and save yourself a boatload of money too. I hope this helps.

    Edit: I found this link discussing the issue, it's informative:

    Honestly I don't make my character sprites to any set sizes, I'm not really sure what the rule of thumb is for that but it's very rare that any characters will match perfectly to a power of 2 size.

  • Lemonmuncher, I always work in power of two sizes (8x8,16x16,32x32,64x64,128x128,256x256 are the main ones I use for environments) when doing environment tiles. It's the general rule of thumb for games art (I'm almost certain Construct 2 complains about not liking non power-of-2 images), so I always stick with those sizes. It also helps keep all of your art tiles aligned nice and neat to a one-size-fits-all grid.

    You don't need to keep it all the sides equally sized though, as long as you keep it a power of 2 number you'll never lose the grid, and Construct 2 won't whine at you about your images being non power of two.

    For example, these assets from the jungle temple tileset:

    32x32

    <img src="http://i.imgur.com/9VG4qik.png" border="0" />

    64x64

    <img src="http://i.imgur.com/ECbuFgI.png" border="0" />

    16x46

    <img src="http://i.imgur.com/69nW9DR.png" border="0" />

    You don't need to fill the whole image like I've done in these examples, but I always tend to keep the canvas size a power of 2 so that I don't get any weird errors, and everything plays nice with the grid.

    I hope this helps!

  • mineet Thanks, it's a really slow burning project since I'm doing it solo, but I'm trying my best to make something that plays well and looks good too.

    If there's anything I can help you with, let me know!

  • Whiteclaws Don't cry! As soon as money becomes obsolete to society I'll do it all for free :D Seriously though, hit me up when you have some cash and need some art and I'll be glad to help you out :)

  • fadvance I really like your work, I wish I was anywhere near your level of competence when it comes to drawing pixel art characters.

    I'm sticking to one-off pieces for now, here's my latest one, 'Bitstream':

    I'm in a sci-fi kind of mood tonight!

  • yeah it's a very strange perspective to work with. I wasn't sure about it at all when I first started, but it's the only perspective choice that makes sense for this type of game. Care to show anything you've been working on?

  • Looking good Ben!

    I'm roughing out one of the first levels for the Dungeon Buster demo:
