  • Just don't go for the same idea with the cars ... don't want to actually damage any buildings

You take all my fun away! D:<

    *EDIT*

Here's what one of the models look like anyway:

    <img src="http://www.maisto.com/%5Cprodimages%5Cpicture%5C31089-00000002.gif">

    And the other:

  • Haha, yeah ... more fun that way

Look online for some free images of just grunge - anything really. Sticks, cracked walls, etc. Then (in photoshop or similar) make a new layer, grayscale it and use overlay, erasing the details you don't need.

Best to mix photo textures with more photo textures IMO.

I'm not to shabby and "grunging" up textures with scum and ooze and cracks etc... The only thing I can see problems with is going to be the building faces. I will probably end up going around the city taking photos of various buildings and using those as a basis... I have to make them look "post apocalyptic" so it may take more work than I am bargaining on... but time will tell in the end.

  • How about both? Take the photos and then rework your own cars from the "textures."

More work, but then you can recolor or add designs that are more unique to you.

My thoughts exactly... in fact I just went over to Kmart across the way there and started looking at Hotwheels cars for like $1.60 each... then I got carried away after about 30 minutes of looking at toy cars and ended up going from $1.60, to $5.80, to $11.99, to $19.95 for these two 1/24 scale Chevys. I got a 1968 Camaro SS, and a Nova SS Coupe from the Maisto toys range... they look damn sweet.

I'll go get my friends camera tomorrow and try to take some snaps this weekend with the macro function. Ill also comendere my mates old record player so I can do a short video of the car spinning around so I can chop it out with FXhome and use it for a groovy car selection menu thing. Hopefully this will work out the way I want it to, otherwise my daughter now has two expensive toys to play with lol.

    *EDIT*

For the damage model... do I take a hammer to the cars after I have all the photos I need of it "not smashed"?? Or should I just Photoshop the damage? I think a hammer would be more fun!

  • I see. Well bonus money or not, that's still awful

Agreed... it's not the most fun thing I can think of for killing time... however because everyone is OK, including the guy that caused the accident, then I suppose we look at the bright side of things. At lesat we can go get another car now with the money the insurance is going to pay out.

  • Sorry to hear that

I'm surprised you didn't get more of the value of the vehicle if it was beyond repair!

    Best wishes!

Yeah it was only a 1986 Mazda 929 Execuative... not really worth very much... in fact we got a little more money back than what we have spent on the car since owning it... we only bought it for $600 lol, but just recently spent nearly $3000 on a new engine. Oh well... at least we came out on top!

  • I was playing around with my daughters Matchbox cars the other day, and it suddenly gave me an idea... Since I am working on an overhead view car game in Construct, I thought it would be cool to use some Matchbox cars, and take photo's of them from direct overhead view using my friends 9mpx Digital SLI Macro camera... I could also take "texture" samples from things like grass, dirt, and the road etc to make the rest of my graphics...

What do you think? Or should I just draw some cars like everyone else?

  • Killer... Kind of glad I didn't have time to download 0.94 what with all the destruction derby action going on etc...

Will test this out tonight fo'sho!

  • Wow! Lucky everyone's OK! How fast were they going?

She was doing about 40kph, and he was doing about 30kph... but because it was head-on, that was like hitting a wall at 70kph (which is about 50mph?)

The car is totally mangled... like fook-mangled. Oh well, at least we can go buy a much newer car now... probably go spend about $10,000-$12,000 and use the insurance money as a deposit. It's kind of funny because my wife has been on my back for a few weeks to ring the mechanic about the car because the steering box needed to be rebuilt as it was leaking fluid from the seals... don't need to spend that $600 now!

    Blessing in disguise I suppose?

  • You guys should be able to pick up something like a GeForce 6600GT card (second hand even) for like $30 or so if you have AGP... That card supports up to PS 3.0 as well... Even the old GeForce FX series cards supported PS 2.a, but I don't think that's going to quite cut it?

If you have PCI-E which is newer, then any card should work really, but I'm guessing you are on the older AGP setup otherwise you wouldn't have the problem? :O

  • Now the car is completely fooked... write off.

She is OK though which is all I'm really worried about. My 2 year old daughter was in the car as well at the time, she is also fine... in fact, once they crashed she said "OOPS! CRASH!" and giggled. The extend of the injuries included a small bruise the size of a postage stamp on my wife's knee from where it hit the steering wheel... and that's it thankfully!

It was a head on collision caused by the other driver. Police indicated he was at 100% fault and his insurance will cover all damage. Our car is unfortunately beyond repair so we will be collecting $5500.00 as a pay-out. His car (Nissan Skyline R34) was still drivable after the accident amazingly!

Pictures of the mangled wreak to follow after the Mrs. goes to the yard and cleans out the car of our belongings.

    Drive safely now kiddies!

  • Try Construct 3

  • I usually use Print Screen as well if I'm in a windowed game, but otherwise I use FRAPS otherwise I can only take 1 screenshot without having to ALT+TAB out and paste+save it somewhere.

FRAPS is great... too bad it uses so much CPU power to record video. D:

Game looking really cool BTW... Nissan Death lol... I like Nissan

  • After installing .94 I did roll back to .93 (actually I predicted this and installed them on separate drives) but upon going back to .93 any time I try to save crashes the program. And it was all going pretty well too...

  • Yeah, I'm just anxious. I've been working on this for a competition in the TSA and the deadline is tomorrow and now it's not working in the new version and the file is bugged so I can't save in the old one.

    Oh Snap!

Maybe roll back to .93? Or were you waiting on a .94 feature to finish off? Either way... bummer :/
