  • Thats a really clever way of scrolling. Nice one! Good dead spot.

It's almost like you want to invert the horizontal position so it stays behind him. The main reason why I want to do it this way is because my characters are quite large and I really need the player to be able to see ahead so they don't die because they can't see enough ahead.

    Really appreciate the help Nimtrix!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I just tested Super Mario World and what happens is Mario gets slightly past the centre horizontally and then the camera over takes Mario so the screen shows more in front than behind. When he turns around the screen stays static but when he reaches a certain point walking the other way the camera then scrolls again to show more in the other direction.

This is a good challenge :)

  • Yeah that is where I am stuck. Originally I thought about having invisible objects acting as scrollable areas around the character but the character wont interact with them on a none scrolling layer even though when I set them to visible, they are clearly there.

It's cool working this one out though as I have discovered other methods of scrolling.

One thing Nimtrix, I don't understand this "lerp" command, can you roughly explain it to me.

    Thanks again!

  • Thats got some great bits in that, thank Nimtrix!

But it needs to be so you can see more in front and less behind and then do the opposite when turning around.

Any more help would be greatly appreciated :)

  • I have been playing around with different scrolling all day but still can't work out how to do Mario style scrolling. I have been using another invisible object as the camera but am finding hard to control in a useful way. Basically I want the camera to move so he can see further ahead but also have a dead spot in the middle where it doesn't scroll.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Nice one Ash, great to have you active in the forums!

  • It's an nvidia 7300gt with the latest drivers but I will try the onboard graphics and see if that affects it.

    Cheers for the reply Ashley.

  • Has anyone tried setting up a save system for a CocoonJS export yet. Do the mobile phones remember the save settings on reopening? Do you need to use local storage or is web storage remembered?

    Cheers

  • Cool, didn't realise the Beta Construct had a direct Cocoon export! Not sure how long the Apple Developer account takes to set up but I will report back once it is. I'll be testing on an iPhone 3gs and 4. If the performance is good and it is stable then I am sure that will completely give anyone wanting to work on mobile platforms peace of mind :).

One thing, does anyone know if the game should be made at retina resolution and then will CocoonJS resize it for none retina screens?

  • I think my only specific concern is; is it a good idea to design a game in Construct for mobile devices yet?

I have just ordered the Apple Developer account too, will r100 make it easy to test on iOS? This is really the only area I can see Stencyl is ahead at the moment as you can directly test on the device from the program. I know you can test using LAN but performance is unplayable at retina resolution and you can't test full screen (meaning touch controls often have to be moved to a different position, which makes it hard to get a feel for the game).

I'm mega excited about r100!!! (no pressure guys lol :)

  • It's all well and good making a grand or two from an html 5 game but thats not a living Kyatric

  • Yeah, I am building the game in both engines. Hopefully I will have some good feedback for the community. If the game runs well enough I will use it on the commercial iPhone build. Feel like a Guinea Pig lol!

  • Hi, I want to import lots of images as tiled background objects. Is there a quick way of doing this (i.e. not in the image editor). When I drag files in they automatically make them sprites, I would like to be able to specify what they are imported as.

    Cheers

  • I hate to pose these questions on the community because I know how much we all love construct.

Today I made a build of our game in Construct and in Stencyl. When testing on the iphone, using stencyl the performance was good with the Apple developer account. On Construct I used the HTML 5 LAN technique and it sucked... not even remotely playable. At this time, do I make the game in Stencyl :(. Or risk making in Construct, hoping the exporters will be good enough in the new release to fix this. I wouldn't mind if this were a hobby but I am a 27 year old with a similarly aged artist who is relying on this to sell at least a bit to be our lively hood (who has twins coming)!

If anyone has any advice, please give your opinion.

  • I'm glad you noticed that, thats very useful. Thanks Nimtrix!
