  • Nah, I just thought that it would show the files like Word or Excel would. Anyway, just a minor nitpick, I won't lose sleep over it XD.

  • In the file menu that shows my recent projects, my files show the entire root of the file. (ex. C:/Users/Name/Folder/File). Just wondering if this happens because I'm using the free version of C2.

  • Can't reproduce, editor only uses 200mb here with both layouts open. This is pretty tiny compared to today's machines with gigabytes of memory.

Hmmm... Not sure what's going on with how my laptop handles certain tasks. I see that puzzle 1 takes up the most memory when I close the other layouts. Anyway, I'll try making their next game in the ebook. Thanks for the help everyone!

  • Yes it's a resource hog.

In that it will eat whatever you feed it.

    A huge background for example.

Okay, that clears things up. I guess with html5 being relatively new, a lot of developers have to workout the kinks and make sacrifices to maximize performance.

  • Problem Description

____ Hi, I'm following the tutorials in the Level 0 ebook. Right now, I'm making their third game Jumble Art. I've noticed that in task manager, the C2 editor is using up to 800mb of memory, which slows my computer to a crawl. Other members on the forum have tested the game and they found similar issues. Maybe it's probably my computer that is a little outdated, but I'm posting this bug report just to make sure.

  • It might be a bug that causes this, so I suggest you file a bug report and see what the Scirra Team has to say about this.

    Will do, thanks!

  • Bubble Game - 30fps up to 50% CPU in Chrome (debug mode)

    the game isn't well optimized

But this depends totally on which computer and browser you are testing

Like with Edge I get 50fps.

I'm going to test other browsers and see how C2 handles. I'm definitely going to upgrade the ram asap. Btw this is probably one of the most helpful and active communities I've been apart of. Thanks guys!

  • Maybe I need to buy a new laptop. In task manager, C2 was hogging up nearly 800mb of memory (Jumble Art). Only C2 was open with no background tasks.

  • Alright, so I have 2 quick questions to ask.

#1. Hi, so I'm following the tutorials in the Level 0 ebook and right now I'm making the 'Jumble Art' game. I've noticed that after I've added music and some animations, the game takes up nearly 1 gig of memory on the layout screen. Is this normal, or is it a bug in Construct 2? I know that when compared to today, my computer looks like it came from the stone age, but 1 gigabyte for this game is kinda ridiculous.

#2. When you debug the layout, is the game supposed to run slow? I was running the first game in the Level 0 book-Bubble Pop Madness- and when debugging, the game chugged, like 5-9 FPS. (Using Google Chrome, btw.)

Running it normally doesn't cause any issues.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Hey, thanks for the advice. Nearly thought about throwing this thing in the garbage!

  • Okay, so my laptop is kinda crap, but I don't use it for much other than checking email and watching videos. Would you guys recommend I upgrade the ram or just buy a new one?

  • Hi, my name is Aaron and just like you, I found Construct 2 while browsing for game creation software.

I don't really mean for this to become a career, just a little hobby I can do during my free time. I love watching anime, drama, and LPs on YouTube (game grumps and dramaalert FTW!) I think my interest in gaming started back when I played mario world on the snes, but i really grew up in the ps2 days (late bloomer I know...). I love those days when the tech was limited and forced the creators to be unique when making their games. It still happens a little bit today, but not on the same level as was before.

Anyway, I hope I can learn some cool stuff being on this site.
