  • Nice! Graphics/music is good, gameplay is like SMB, but that's what you went for so it's ok.

The one problem I had (at least in the demo) is responsiveness of controls. Maybe it's just specific for me but it seemed like everything was lagging. e.g. when I run and jump (in the level with big straight run followed by big jump), I have to press jump almost a full screen earlier than the edge to actually manage to jump and not just fall straight into the spikes.

When I actually do jump (a bit too early was the case) the graphic shows me going straight for the saw, and then as I hit it I am magically transported up onto the safe ground as if I jumped the pit properly.

I noticed this on many occasions - I tend to fall into a pit before actually reaching the edge of it, and jump across one safely even when it is obvious that I shouldn't (that I was too short with my jump).

Maybe it's a glitch on a slower computer/browser (I was on Chrome, but my comp here is nothing much), but if it were just laggy graphics my jumping trajectory would still be proper, just with skipped frames. Instead, it felt "moved", as if my actual jump was always a bit (sometimes a big bit) shifted in comparison to what the graphics showed.

Again, if it's just me, don't worry, but if others see it too it might be worth testing a bit on a lower performance machine.

  • Hello,

First of all, I have to commend the team for creating this awesome product and being on top of things with updates and bug fixes. You guys rock! :)

Now, I've started using Construct on my first serious project recently and decided to make a list of the things that bug me when I run into them and which might be improved.

I apologize if some of them are already reported (I looked for a suggestion list on the forum and found that it's preferred not to have one), or if I simply used the feature wrong and missed something. I've put in an effort to test and search before putting stuff on the list.

Here's the list so far (just verified with r103.2):

    • Sprite - Edit animations: remember the location/size of all sub-windows (the final positions are saved when closing the Edit Animations dialog, but during the time it is open the "Color Palette" window position is reset every time it's closed/reopened and the "Image Points" window resets every time the animation frame is changed!)
    • Sprite - Edit animations: when resizing sprite, add option to lock aspect and a percentage-based resize
    • Sprite - Edit animations: add a way to copy/move selected sprites from one animation to another (now they can be duplicated and moved only within the animation they are part of)
    • Event sheet - Group rename: when renaming group, update all references to the group name
    • Expression editor: doubleclick in expressions is acting weird when the popup is first opened (at first it selects the doubleclicked word with the preceding space, comma and the whole previous word); after that, it seems to work as intended (doubleclick = select word; another doubleclick, or tripleclick = select entire expression)
    • Layout - Layers: add the ability to select and move multiple layers together (or to link layers to other layers so they move together)
    • Layout - sprite - Z-order: allow more customization than just send to top/bottom of layer (e.g. setting a Z-index)

    Cheers,

    Daniel

  • Hmm, I needed something like this and this plugin seems great - however I can not get it to work :(

I installed the plugin, used it in an empty project, but none of its actions work. Tried rotating it, setting opacity, clearing it, drawing a line, and fill/floodfill - nothing happens in either case.

I also tried Pode's cat painting tutorial (both capx and from the provided link), and the floodfill he uses works but the whole result behaves rather strangely:

    • initial color is grey, and painting with grey works
    • changing color to pink or brown works, but only if you use those colors first
    • using any of the other colors first switches to black, and makes it impossible to use pink/brown anymore (everything's black)
    • the CPU usage remains around 25% for me, but it keeps eating up RAM continuously until crashing the browser (both Chrome and FF)

I turned WebGL off as you guys said it might cause problems.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Seems like a rather powerful plugin, but since it works ok to so many people I wonder if there's something seriously wrong on my side (everything else in Construct works fine though).

    Cheers!

    D.

Edit: I shut down Construct, remade a fresh project, put in only Canvas and Mouse, and now all the actions are working fine - in that project.

The cat painting example however is still acting up and taking up RAM uncontrollably until crash (and still accepting only pink and brown).

I'll leave the symptoms here just in case, maybe it's something worth looking into?

  • Oh... thanks, will do!

  • Hello!

Not to open a new thread, this relates to the same issue.

I just started with Construct2 and downloaded r90 a few days ago. I wanted to publish a game on Arcade now and get the following error:

"You are not using a new enough release of Construct 2. Please download the latest release, export your game in it and try uploading again."

I downloaded the latest stable build again thinking there's a new version, but now I see it's still r90.

I rebuilt again, and still can't upload.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

  • Ahoy!

My name is Daniel, a serious software developer during the day, and a (newbie just started) game developer at night. Looking forward to making some interesting games, and Construct seems really promising in helping with that.

    Cheers! :)
