  • If I am not wrong, isn't ds_grid basically just a type of two-dimensional array? In what way is it better than using just webstorage? Can a ds grid be encrypted?

  • Thanks for your reply.

I'm using global variables to keep track of the boosters and saving them using webstorage. Is there a better way to do this? Someway to encrypt the data?

  • I noticed something a little weird about a few popular games like candy crush or farm heroes saga. Both games have Money which can used to buy boosters, life, etc but only when online. But without internet connection, I can't buy any of the items for sale even though I have money.

So my question is why isn't it possible to make off-line purchases with the money which is already present?

In my game, I plan on making gold coins to be the only item that can be bought from apple/google etc. Then the boosters and such can be bought with the gold coins. Will I run into any trouble if I make off-line purchasing possible?

  • Cranberry - Thanks for the info. Looking forward to a Facebook plugin.

  • How well does the Phonegap FacebookPB plug-in work? Has anyone tried it?

  • Okay, I think I found a way to solve my problem - by using UnixTimeStamp retrieved by using the Date plug-in. Now I have never had to use it - can anyone confirm that it is okay to work with the fairly large number that UnixTimeStamp is going to retrieve?

  • Thanks for your quick reply.

Yes, in the actual game, I plan on using Spritefonts (so much more flexible and of course, better performance). This is just for testing purposes.

The countdown will be shown anytime the number of lives dips below 5. I think seconds are kind of important from a visual POV - having them gives a sensation (at least to me) of time passing by quickly, which in turn may be good to keep a player from giving up and walking away.

  • Gougth - Thanks for the idea of using arrays. That might just be what I am looking for. It's a really great idea. But it appears to be a lot of work. Oh well.

shinkan - Yours is a very nice way to do a Countdown. Really like it. I just came across a capx that made the Countdown in the following way. My question is which one is better for performance on mobile devices?

  • Thanks for your reply. Any chance you might point out how to subtract the time and date? For example, if the player stopped in 29.7.14 at 18.23 and came back at 31.07.14 as 02.12, then he should get 5 lives but how do I go about showing it?

  • Hi,

In my game, the player starts with 5 lives. Any time a life is lost, I want a timer of 30 minutes to start, at the end of which a life is added. Now I also want the timer to be active, even when the game is not being player. For example, if all the 5 lives are lost and the player exits the game and then comes back 3 hours later, he should be able to restart with 5 lives because he has been away longer than 5x30 minutes.

I am trying to implement this using the Date plugin but can't seem to get anywhere.

Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

  • Hi,

I am trying to export my game to Android using Crosswalk. I carefully followed the tutorial made by Ashley (How to export to Android with Crosswalk) and all goes without a hitch. But when I try to open the app on an android device, the splash screen plays but then the screen goes completely black.

So, of course I thought there was something wrong with my game. So I tried a simple code then - literally the "Hello World" . And it's still the same. Splash screen followed by black screen.

So, what am I missing here?

  • Thanks for your reply. I'll try what you're saying about the score.

  • So this is my game so far. I have simplified the code a little, so only the basic functionality is there. The problem as always is when the game is successfully completed, the Pop-Up congratulating the player doesn't wait for the automatic matches to complete.

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/218196592/new.capx

Now adding a wait for 1 sec or 10 doesn't work because I can't know exactly how long to wait. Automatic matches could happen once, or 1 dozen times or never - there is no set number.

A0Nasser - Thank you again for offering to take a look at my problem.

  • Thank you so much for your offer. Will get back to you.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Instead of using Wait, I am using audio tags (that play when a match is made and candies drop) to start the Pop-Up. It probably is all wron, but that seems to work but only if match is made once.

Now sometimes matches and subsequent candy drop can happen for a while and that's where the game doesn't work anymore. Either the pop-up ignores the other matches or it takes every match as a new one and pop-up every single time.

This is really frustrating. I am ready to tear my hair out.
