  • Hi everyone. I've recently started a project for a 2D Metroidvania-esk game of which I will be the programmer.

However before throwing myself into the woodwork, I wanted to do enough research in order to be 100% certain of the software I would be using.

Since you guys here are experienced, could you tell me if Construct2 is a great solution for:

    • A 2D Metroidvania-esk game.
    • Making a game with a Camera that follows the character through lenghty areas that are not 'room by room' ( an example of what I want would be: a long corridor with the camera panning left or right instead of having to go into a whole other room).
    • A game to be played on PC and / or mobile devices.

From what I've seen Construct2 looks quite amazing and I wanted to know more about it.

    Thank you.

  • Thank you very much for telling me all of this. I fully appreciate it.

  • Can you show some of your work ? Link to games you've made and apps you've created ?

  • Alright, thanks for reading and considering my comment, your game is fun when played with a friend.

I'll be looking foward to your next game.

  • Try Construct 3

  • Ahhh.. that explains it. Alright thanks for the info.

  • Hello, I've been trying my hardest to follow the tutorials 'by the book'. However I seem to be missing some of the assets Ashley used in his tutorial.

I am currently on the 'Create a platform game' tutorial by Ashley, his tutorials are excellent and I am highly motivated to continue learning with them, however I seem to be missing important files in order to go through the tutorials as required.

I did download the Free Bundle (34mb), however, what I need for Ashley's tutorial does not seem to be present in there.

Can anyone point me proper directions as to where to get my assets ? Or, Where can I get the materials / assets I need to complete Ashley's tutorial ? The way the tutorial sounds, I should be able to find them and download them somewhere.

  • I guess I can summarize my question as ' Where do I get the materials that Ashley uses for his tutorial ? ' I can't seem to find that question answered in the forum section you linked me.

    I guess I'll create a topic there ?

  • Thank you for your fast response. My apologies for me confusing Ashley's gender.

I did download the free bundle but it does not seem to contain what I need to use to perfectly follow Ashley's tutorial. I also have artists at my disposal who are able to draw brand new assets for me, my current dilemma is that I do not seem to be able to get my hands on what's used by Ashley in his tutorial, which seems to be essential to arrive to the same final product.

So far I've done games with RPG Maker VX Ace and a little bit of extremely simplistic stuff with Game Maker. I've also finished the first of Ashley's tutorial which makes me create an 'on top' shooter game. The platform game tutorial being the second, is where I'm currently 'stuck?' at.

    • Thank you for the directions you've given me about the community. I appreciate it.
  • The concept is nice, I can see it being enjoyed by 2 rival friends in its greatest moments. I wish I could've fought with a computer. Is it a feature I didn't notice? Or is it not there?

If so, is this something you could see yourself add to your game in the future ?

  • Ok so I've got 2 questions, if anyone could answer one or both I'd be really happy.

1 - I'm trying my hardest to follow the tutorials 'by the book'. However I seem to be missing all the assets or some of them.

I am currently on the 'Create a platform game' tutorial by Ashley, her tutorials are excellent and I am highly motivated to continue learning with them, however I seem to be missing important files in order to go through the tutorials as required.

I did download the Free Bundle (34mb), however, what I need for Ashley's tutorial does not seem to be present in there.

Can anyone point me proper directions as to where to get my assets ?

    2. Being part of the community

Can someone give me advices on how and where to get as much education out of the forums and its community as possible ? Are there any specific places to follow? Anyone in particular ?

    Thank you.

  • Hey everyone, my name is ParasiteBirth, I'm a diehard video gamer since the age of 4 and I've been dreaming of designing video games my whole life. I've recently discovered Construct 2 and I am fully motivated to master it. I joined the forums to be able to learn as much as possible form the community.

So far I've learned to use RPG Maker VX Ace and a tiny little bit of Game Maker. Construct 2 fascinates me more than the other 2 softwares I mentioned though.

If possible, could anyone give me directions on where to ask my questions ? I know are areas in the forum for this, but my question is not a 'how do I' type of question.
