  • Pretty entertaining. I just took me a while to figure out certain things. Slapping the guy, making fire, inflating the balloon, anything that didn't need just clicking. But I was stuck on mastering it for like 10 minutes. :D

    Anyway, we participated in our first ever ludum dare over the weekend. It was a lot more of a marathan from hell than I expected it to be. Staying up all night, so much coffee and brainy thinky work. Thank goodness for coffee. If nothing else, we did it to get experience. We definitely got that, but we didn't end with a finished product.

    We called our game Arrythmia. An arena shooter with a gameboy color pallete. You can move around with WASD and shoot with spacebar. The main attraction was the ability to slow or speed up time while simultaneously switching from a piercing bullet and a spreadshot by holding left or right click. While you hold down either click, your either degenerates, but regenerates over time. We plan on improving it over time. We were going to have 6 or so different enemies, but I couldn't figure out how a few of them would work.

    As is, it's incomplete. I didn't put in the ability to die yet. The enemies are pretty glitchy. They have hitbox problems, and one worm enemy isn't right. It's supposed to be a 3 part worm(head, body, tail). Even when I got it to work (which I later changed for experimentation purposes) the tails still wagged like the most amped puppies ever. I haven't work on it since Ludum Dare was over. Right now, I think it's pretty jimmy rigged because I couldn't figure out certain concepts, so I developed workarounds. The worm is one of those things.

    We intend to improve it, and I think it could eventually be pretty cool. But there are a few things I'll have to learn first. :)

  • Really hard to believe you made that with construct! It looks great. Reminds me of Jak and Daxter somehow. Just running around, collecting things, smacking stuff down, etc.

    I'm new here, so I like seeing something great like that and knowing it came from Construct. :D

    I think Construct definitely makes a lot of things easier, but sometimes, I wish I could just write it in.

  • Yeah, I mean the layout. About that, um, I have a cap that has a layout size that's different than default, but I still can't find where I can alter it. Can you tell me here?

  • Ashley - Construct 2 costs money right? I got Classic because I knew it was free. I heard about it from my brother. I switched to it after hitting a lot of roadblocks with GameMaker, again on my Brother's advice, I switched to Construct. Originally, I wanted to use Game Maker because it doesn't use Direct X, which is becoming less used. After messing around with Construct, I began to understand how ridiculously easy it was to use and experiment with. After having gotten a few chapters into a C++ book, I kind of prefered Construct. :).

    Is there a free version of Construct 2?

  • I can't figure out how to change the size of rooms or create damage or hp of objects. The damage and hp I would guess would have something to do with private variables (or attributes, can't remember) but I couldn't figure anything out. Plus, once I made hp or damage, how would I apply them with events?
