  • Hello everyone, I am Luca Morini, an italian Ph.D. student with a deep interest in community based game design. Some days ago I tried to post, across many game based communities, a large collection of game design resources links, in a thread named "World Makers Assemble!"...Sadly, I don't have yet the reputation to share links here, but I hope I will soon be able to share my work. In the meantime, I'd love to discuss how would you organize such a collection (since it's getting a bit...messy, thanks to further community contributions), and which themes you would find most interesting and helpful. I'm here to help and to learn from you, the true game design community experts! Thank you in advance for any suggestion!

  • As a "social scientist" I find this an extremely interesting experiment in social self-organization, but even more than the (indeed amazing) achievement of completing a game with this method, what I find most awesome is the mythology, the narratives that the community created out sheer chaos.

I mean, Pidgeot as "Bird Jesus", what's not to love?

  • As already discussed by Beaverlicious and DatapawWolf, worst thing ever is probably cash grabbing mechanics. They feel borderline blasphemous to me, and it's something I really can't stand. I'm still new here, so I can't post links yet, but I suggest googling "Dark Game Design" to find some interesting insights in this and other "evil" practices.

Beside this, I hate equipment grinds, most of all when grinding long enough supersedes any level of skill.

  • Some kind of hybrid between the good old 2D beat em ups and MMORPG fighting mechanics, with both Cooperative and Versus modes...Well, now that I think of it, just a much more brainy version of Dragon's Crown, or a sidescrolling Diablo III without the mad loot loop

  • Hello everyone, I am so glad to find a dedicated forum for educators! I am Luca Morini, an italian Ph.D. Student in education and communication on a quest for the Holy Grail of community based game design, or "world making", as I like to call it quoting good old Neil Postman. I really do think that creating games together is a step toward a deeper and more critical systemic awareness, and I'm currently building a "wiki" resource on cooperative game design starting from what game discussion, modification and development communities have done...Sadly I am currently unable to post links, though I have a "World Makers Assemble!" thread in the development and design section dedicated to it. I hope I'll be able to soon build reputation enough to share my work with you all!

  • Whoopsie!...I can see only now that my post has come out more than a bit wrong...It's no problem, I'm hanging around for sure, as I can see that yours is a very nice and helpful community. I'll edit this post as a placeholder until I can share my resources. Thank you for your interest and see you around!

  • Hello everyone, I am Luca Morini, an italian Ph.D. Student in education and communication on a quest for the Holy Grail of community based game design, or "world making", as I like to call it quoting good old Neil Postman. Well, after wandering quite a bit within and without the web, I was able to assemble this (most assuredly incomplete) "Master List of Lists" of resources, both community generated and simply free, to share with you all, in the hopes that you will find it useful and helpful.

I'm posting this almost everywhere in game related communities, especially those that have a specific forum for game design. The first thing I learned while doing this kind of research is indeed that it's impossible to create something new alone, as this is a puny list that sorely needs the care and participation of the true experts, you, to become something more: a resource for everyone who wants to embark in the adventure, science and art that is building playful spaces. I am therefore setting up both a wiki, to allow for inter-site discussion, and a blog , to better illustrate my motives and to tell the epic tales around these cooperative efforts, which I hope you will find worthy and interesting.

Edit: I learned by posting that some rep is needed to post links here, and I can understand that. I'll be around in the forums so I hope to build it soon, in the meanwhile I'll leave this here as a placeholder, just let me know if you are interested in what I am doing.
