    should cover a lifetime

    actually if you live 60 years * 100$ = 6000 $

However at some point (perhaps in 5-15 years) the editor might not be able to connect to the licensing server due to discontinued support - so you will be forced to move onto whatever other editor there is and the yearly subscription fee might be 250$ per anum.

One thing to remember is that the fee can be changed every year - scirra can "tweak" the price as they see fit. More features= bigger price. My guess is that it will grow exponentially

Actually I think the pound just went down some more while you were typing that.

    Blame Brexit I guess.

So don't count all your sharks with lasers attached to their heads before they are hatched.

  • Well the problem with functions is that they aren't very linear, the return event can be anywhere. To continue the simile, it's like a blade, and a handle that are separate.

If you wanted to "sharpen" the blade you might have to go digging for it, and includes might actually complicate things.

They might work great, or terrible depending on how well they are planned.

If they were to remove the restriction for using the editor, and wanted to keep it from being abused, I would suggest tracking how much time was spent using the editor.

But, I wasn't aware there was a monthly option now.

    Tom said:

    - You can continue to collect revenues from published games if your subscription ends, that's fine

    - You will not be able to edit or publish games if your subscription has expired, but you can open in read only

Yeah I got that, and that with the changes to the personal licence seem fair.

I just think that reducing the restriction a bit might be better in the long run, and allows for a revenue that might be left out.

  • I think you can load a project js file using the script tag.

Getting that into the editor is not easy.

You can use a variable to get past the editors formatting limits.

Then again, why bother with that when you can put the script into the variable.

If it's not to big that is.

  • From the blog:

"Anyone who buys Construct 2 from today until Construct 3's release will get their first year of Construct 3 for free. To make it a no-brainer, we're also putting Construct 2 on sale for $99. So there's no reason to wait!"

    Scirra's first bogo sale.

  • I think that might lead to the overuse of functions, but that type of modularisation is planned for C3.

Really need more information than what's being given.

I understand the need to dribble out features, but licensing has to be clearly defined, and all at one time.

All we can do is just guess as to how this is to work, and that's clearly not a good thing.

  • You might try regex.

  • There's a known bug with the layout grid where you have to click into the grid width, and hit enter for the height value to be saved.

You can't reliably protect a html5 product from being copied, that's one of the few real issues with it.

You can try to restrict its use with logins, but that too can be bypassed since the code is right there for the taking, just like our html5 games, or any exe for that matter.

Of course the most likely abuse will come in the form of scam, or phishing users passwords.
