  • I've made a trailer for my game and I'm very interested in one thing - I'm not a native English speaker, but I tried very hard to sound natural. What do you thing about voicing?

    Thanks for any feedback!

Wow. Firstly the voice acting is fine. The accents gives the game a nice vibe.

Secondly.. the game looks super awsome....

  • Yes

Check the Construct 2 demo folder.

There is a demo that shows all the different blend modes on one screen.

One of them will definitely do what you want.

    Destination out maybe?

Sorry I'm at work right now just passing by so cant which one or what the demo is called.

  • Ok so I’ve had construct since around May/june. No programming experience and only able to put in a few hours each weekend, so it has taken be a long time to do something that others may find trivial. The Construct 2 journey so far has been huge, and sometimes very frustrating, but also very satisfying, learning experience. Special thanks to all they guys who post the tutorials.

Anyway it’s not a game yet, but it’s the first time I have something that resembles a tech demo that I am happy to show.

Twin analogue touch control shooter on phone browser (chrome).

    This is just a video,

Recorded directly from a Sony XperiaZ1 compact with the game running full screen in the android chrome browser. The FPS drops by about 20 when in the phone screen record mode so is fully not indicative.

Once I have something more game like I will upload a game. But give me a few more months!

edit. sorry I just realised the structure in the middle looks a bit phallic! This is totally unintentional just chucked something in so I would have something solid to ......oh im gonna shut up now....

  • Just to add

Those Galaxy A series are truly awful for html game performance and do not reflect most phones.

A game I had running at smooth 60 fps Sony Z1 compact/HTC 1/ One +/ Samsung S4/5 with around 100 sprites on screen up to 15-20 of which have multiple layers including wgl effects overlaid and some transparent sprites and physics on the main character sprite 3 parallax layers and transparent top layer.

Same game on my mates A3 and my wife's brand new A6 tablet runs at 10 -14 FPS.

I don't know what they are leaving out of the A series to save costs but it cripples HTML5 game performance even when native apps appear to run fine.

  • Working normal non gaming related job full time

+ family stuff and social stuff

I am managing to put in about 4-5 hours a week on construct.

Learning everything from scratch and doing everything myself including art and sound music. That means learning other programs as well.

To make the game that I have in my head......

Based on the progress I have made so far......

I would say about 50 years......

  • Hi guys

    The pen works fine.

For right click you click the pen button while hovering over the item you want. A little circle comes up and then you swipe over the circle.

Agreed manual scaling stretching of items on the high dpi screen is finicky due to the need to grab the little anchors but its not impossible and how often would you be needing to transform sprites in this way?

Touch Long touch right click though doesn't work

, but I've noticed it doesn't work for a lot of programs. So perhaps it is something that needs to be deliberately implemented.

So I think devving with the surface pro on the go with just stylus in tablet mode should be a goer. Though haven't tried in anger yet.

    Lets see.....

  • Hi Ashley.

I am new to the windows 10 tablet scene but it sure seems like the future of computing, so it would be good to figure out why its not working.

I will check a few other apps tonight and get back on how they behave. (maybe its not just construct)

    cheers...

  • Many Thanks for your swift reply.

That is unfortunate. I've just purchased one second hand as kind of tester ( it didn't come with stylus )

but I am already so impressed with the power of the device and the way it has changed the way I work that I was thinking I might replace all the computers in my life with them.

I saw a video of a guy using krita with an app called Tablet Pro that allowed him to have a custom panel of buttons on the side. I'm sure one of them was right click. So this could solve the right click issue short term.

I will put in a feature request.... you never know.

    Cheers.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Just wondering. I'm messing around with a surface pro 3.

IMO I want to use it as a pure finger tablet without a mouse , keyboard or stylus ( unless I'm doing artwork.) As IMO It works superbly well as a pure tablet when propped up with the stand on my lap and the screen keyboard is awesome enough for typing.

However construct 2 doesn't seem to support the long press right click.

Is this correct or am I doing something wrong?

  • they don't need to support it. they already do

It is android, (android tv), any compatible .apk wrap should be fine.

the tegra x1 chip and guaranteed joy pads make it super viable for more high powered games.

but my main point was that you don't even need to wrap,

the beta chrome browser on it works very well from my small few tests.

  • I'm a proper noob to all this but

doesn't using tmx import export and external editor give you everything you want for tilemap editing and more?

Also wrt collisions isn't it better to work with separate simple hidden monochrome collision tilemap overlayed with complex decorative tilemaps with no collision . As well as making llevel creation much easier it negates the need to have tilemap tiles without collisions.

Feel free to shoot me down as necessary....

its not as elegant a solution as dropbox or google drive (Google also recently stopped allowing webhosting on Drive.) for preview hosting.

but so far the best free thing I found was x10hosting

its one of the better free website hosting sites. and you don't have to actually set up a website. they give you a subdomain and you can just set up as many sub sub domain sites within your subdomain as you want and host games on each on each of them. The only hassle is that you have to use FTP to upload to the server. but the added bonus is if you have good content you can supplement with a nice front end website (can use their templates if you like) and establish some web presence.

  • I sont see it mentioned here so I just wanted to say

that the nvidia shield android TV runs HTM5 games on chome (some sort of chomuim beta that you have to sideload sadly) real nice and smooth and the joysticks works good as well (so far only tested dpad and buttons not analogue)

its real nice seeing construct 2 html5 output directly on browser on big TV with joypad support.

  • 2D games on modern PC should never be slow, the optimisation should be applied on games that are on mobile

The lines between PC and mobile are getting blurrier by the day. and IMO by choosing construct rather than say GM or unity for indi development we should be fully embracing the browser as a platform regardless of the hardware behind it. It shouldn't be about making a game for either PC or mobile it should be about making a game that can adopt to different hardware configurations, that work with different screen sizes, that work with any screen orientation that work on any OS, that work with touch as well as K&M, or joypad without making a fuss. etc

I find it fascinating and somewhat revolutionary that I can upload a HTML 5 game and in seconds that game is accessible and working flawlessly on my phone, my tablet, my PC , my sheild android TV, (not so good on the PS4 browser tho) also that I can send the link to anyone and they can play it on whatever they have at hand right there and then.

  • oh no.....

I just pressed go on a refurbed surface 3 pro for too good to be true money off fleabay.......

its the mid range i3 version with the Intel 4200 graphics (not the best) and 4GB ram

so represents a common current low end ish £270-£300 laptop.

Ill let you know how it goes for construct 2.......if indeed it does go.......

    glerikud

Just FYI I do appreciate the need for powerful PC when devving, I do have a desktop at home with a reasonably competent I5 and 3GB DDR5 graphics

but I rarely get to use it.

I am forever travelling for work or sitting all weekend in gymnastics competitions pretty much doing nothing ....so wanted something very portable but still reasonably capable.

also I think construct 2's true heart is in quality browser games for the masses rather than wrapped or native apps. And the masses aren't sat at high powered desktops. They are on the train or bus or back of car or slouching on the couch or in bed with a low powered tablet, phone , or net book etc.

So my other logic is if you dev on a lower powered machine you will automatically appreciate the capabilities of these devices and be forced to optimize thus making your game more accessible to more people on the browser platform.
