  • I was thinking if the array depths were the same, you could just push a whole row from one array to the other. Not that it's tough to iterate over a row and copy the values individually.

  • Sorry to necro post to this but what you're saying is if I want to move a row with unique values in each column from one array to another, I need to move it one value at a time?

  • Thank you, codah! You're the best.

  • I'm working on an RPG/Management game, and when you go to the Hiring page to hire a group of adventurers I call 3 functions On Layout Start.

On the Hiring Events page the GenerateRoster function runs successfully, the GenerateCards function runs successfully, but when I call the PopulateCards function to tie the array to the UI, nothing happens. If I pull the code outside the function, it runs successfully.

    What gives?

(I've attached the .capx file, the code can be found on the Hiring Events page)

  • Has being on the short-list of specials over the weekend increased your volume at all? (if you prefer not to divulge I understand)

  • AllanR, thank you so much for taking a look at this and for your explanations. This information should be a huge leg-up for what I want to do.

I really really appreciate you taking the time to explain it all and even make changes to my .capx.

  • I've gotten a bit further along and I'm now generating a screen of six adventurers, each with instance variables for their stats.

The problem I have now is it continues to randomly generate stats even after filling all of the available slots. I've attached a .capx file. I'd rather have one code block that populates all six instances rather than having to make a block for each of the 6 slots if possible.

Note: Remove the space after "https://" as my forum account doesn't have URL permissions yet.

  • Why would you suggest one sprite for variables and one sprite for graphics?

  • I'm reasonably new to Construct 2. I've done a couple of the tutorials making the Ghost shooter, breakout clones, and platformers so I understand the general workflow.

I'm looking into working on my own thing now and I'm not sure how to manage a central aspect of it. From what I understand sprite is a plugin you use to create objects that you can then instantiate to create many copies.

I don't think I can use that for what I want to do. I want to create adventuring parties of 6 characters. Each character will be an object that has a number of attributes that might change, including things like a randomly selected representation graphic, 4 stats that are randomly generated, a character class that's randomly generated, etc...

Does Construct 2 have something already set up along those lines? If I use something like an array, how would I tie the generated information in the array to a represented "sprite" on the screen?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • I'm Jeremy, 34 year old artist that's been looking to make games for a while now. I've tried learning C++, python, C#, Java, and Javascript and none of it seems to get through my thick skull. I get the basic concepts but putting it all together seems forever beyond me.

So I started looking at game making programs and I actually discovered Construct just as Construct 2 was getting its first release. I subsequently read that Konjak used the old version to make Iconoclasts and that he considers himself more an artist than a programmer so I've been keeping an eye on things over here.

I love the latest developments I'm seeing with Construct 2, especially with the recent releases adding WebGL and Scirra Arcade support. Time to make something playable.

  • Done. Great work on this Ash!
