  • Yeah you can always store stats

    Good, thank you so much!

  • If you learn some basic array knowledge, all of this is very doable, and in fact easy.

I sort of have items down pat too, but not so sure about form changes. That may require some thought, at least for how to figure it out myself.

    (sorry for the late reply)

Hm, ok great! Thanks for the info. And I mean the change would be pretty simple I think. Like once the stats reach a certain level just have them jump, and then change the Sprite. I would think

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I think it's more than possible to do, but you may have to be more specific. It narrows it down a lot, but a 'creature raising system' is still pretty vague, in my opinion.

You might want to specifically tell us what you are looking to emulate in terms of a feature list, such as creature stats, some sort of transformation/growth system (like, I mean Pokemon, Digimon, etc, if you catch my drift)

    Creatures stats,

Items to be given to the creatures to upgrade those stats

& an evolution system for when the creature reaches those certain stats.

  • What elements of the game are you looking to replicate? You won't be able to make a 3D world but it will be possible to replicate some of the systems from the game as long as they work in 2D.

Just the Chao garden system simplified in 2D, like a monster raising system.

  • Kraplanta are you saying they dropped the price of GameMaker: Studio? Last I checked, to get as many exports as C2 it costs around 700$, which is insane in comparison to C2's 100$ personal license xD.

I agree though, leave the programming to the programmers. That's the point of engines like C2 and UE4, two engines that don't require a programmer, but still benefit from one. I personally think it's important that the ability to develop a game is easily achievable, because knowing how to program doesn't mean you know how to make a good game .

Precisely! And yea it's $349 now for all the exports, but even the $80 version of Game Maker Studio has Xbox one & PS4 exports.

  • Use multiple sprites for each part and build the bike out of them, that is the easiest and less time-consuming way. Some mods that do not come with the first/basic version of the bike, like say the lights, can be turned invisible by default when not bought. Then you have one of two options, you either use frames for each mod type (say for every type of light) and set the sprite animation speed to 0 so that you just pick the frame with the currently used mod.

Or you use separate animations if you want the mods to be animated, like banner flags or something. Then you just switch the animation of the "part" sprite to the one you need.

    Thanks! You're the greatest.

  • In my game I want there to be certain creatures that are dedicated to being vehicles to cross the vast terrarian, kinda like a fast travel system, but I want them to be like fully customisable motorcycles that you can upgrade (aesthetically) by buying mod kits & lights for the bike, anyone know how I would even go about doing something in construct 2?

  • And not meaning to spam, but I'd like to add to the thing I said about UE4 and say it's not good for 2D games. It's rendering code is overkill for a 2d game.

I tried GameMaker yesterday and honestly it's turned me off to extensive coding of any sort what so ever damn near. It just takes to long to get something good and working in comparison to construct 2. The only draws are the cheaper price tag and the opportunity for being a ps4 and Xbox dev. Which is something construct 2 SORELY lacks.

  • I always wanted to replicate something like the chao garden from the adventure sonic titles in a game, you guys think that's possible in construct 2? or coding would be a necessity?

  • Construct 2 is definitely powerful enough for an 2d RPG/ monster hunter. However, speaking if you wanted to make it in 3D, speaking from personal experience, you would be much better off using something like Unity as it is designed for 3D.

Haha solo 3D game development has never been a beast in my interest to tackle, its why im here! if i wanted to do 3d a team would be REQUIRED.

  • Kraplanta - Q3D is a paid set of plugins created by QuaziGNRLnose . It is a combination of plugins and behaviors that will make 3D making in Construct 2 easier/doable.

This will be a good tool for your creation of 3D Monster Hunter game alike.

    Here is the link:

    interesting, i would've never guessed

  • And hey, if you get enough experience, you can buy Q3D in the future and make it 3D. Just make sure that you keep it low poly if you're targetting mobile platforms!

Get me up to speed, what is Q3D?

  • honestly, Monster Hunter is one of my favorite games, please let me know also, I found something a while back that may help you, https://www.scirra.com/tutorials/5037/how-to-make-a-boss-with-individual-destructible-parts

this guide will show you how to make destructible parts on bosses, for them tail carves

    Thanks that really helps!

  • Excuse me if this isn't the place to ask, but what exactly are themes? It's just customising the look of your program from the regular basic white? Or is it something on a functional scale as well?

  • Construct 2 is certainly powerful enough for such a game. You have to do it 2d and you may not be able to include online multiplayer because I have heard it is a struggle to deal with but I honestly haven't tried so it may be exaggerated a bit. Inventory, hunting, gathering, crafting, fishing and anything else in Monster Hunter would be doable.

That's honestly all I needed to hear! Thanks. Ofc yea it would be 2D top down action. Only thing I'd want to add is a Chao garden kinda like thing. But I'm sure that's possible too.
