  • That is a REALLY expensive course.

It is indeed but I got it at a discounted rate for around $150 which is a good deal for the wealth of information (covers also Illustrator graphic design for games and creating music with FL Studio for games).

But you're right, I wouldn't have paid those 300+ bucks.

  • that was not only extremely helpful but also very informative (regarding the DT)and lightning fast.

    Thanks a lot!

  • Hi everyone,

I'm currently going through Udemy's class of creating games with construct 2 which by the way is pretty awesome. However, as I didn't receive an answer yet, I'd like to ask the pros here in this forum:

I have created a pretty simple shooter to mimic my problem. Once my bullet in the shooter hits the enemy it should destroy both, bullet and enemy, and spawn a text object "+10" to refer to the points achieved with that "kill". But when I run the game from Construct2 it simply flips my text "+10" upside down and it moves in strange angles. Any ideas how to solve that problem? I have uploaded a capx file for demonstration purposes:

Thanks in advance for your kind support.

  • Hey everyone,

I'd like to take the chance and introduce myself to this amazing community. I already received help (yes, it was classical graphics card glitch which could easily be solver if I just followed instructions) after the installation and I am amazed by the possibilities C2 has to offer.

I am a 37yr old project manager from Germany working in a large global corporation in procurement. However, besides this day job, gaming and especially getting creative with games has always interested me. When I owned the RPG Neverwinter Nights 2 I was very inspired by the editor which allowed to create own RPG settings / scenery / stories with the game environment.

I am also running a small marketing company mainly focussing on promoting my own information products (no stupid weight loss or similar). As I don't want to misuse this forum to market my products: if you have a question regarding presentations (how to avoid death by bullet points, how to prepare and how to present), ask me :)

What else? Ah yeah, married father of a 13 month old son (at the time writing)...

Looking forward to learn with this great tool and interact with this community that already helped me.

    Thanks and cheers

  • glad to have such a great support at that late time (assuming that you are also in a European time zone).

    THANKS AGAIN BIG TIME!

  • yeah.... FINALLY!!!!! It works...

    thanks so much guys!!!!

Obviously it was related to my graphic card so for anyone having the same problem try the following (summary):

    1. Download the graphic card checking tool provided by tom:

    http://www.scirra.com/blog/73/introducing-the-graphics-driver-updater-utility

    2. Follow the instructions on the site recommended by the tool

    3. Download and install updated drivers

    4. Have fun and bow before this amazing community ;)

  • thanks for the link, tom, I will try that out... hopefully this is the issue (send you a virtual beer *gg* even if not...)

  • ok, now have reinstalled (which was very fast -- too fast?) and still, none of the sprites and not the bg show any image. Very disturbing (and disappointing)

  • yep, I have uploaded my saved file from just a few minutes ago. I will try and reinstall now.

  • the same goes for me. I don't think it's a bug, but hey, I don't have such an exotic system, all drivers uptodate and a clean fresh install. Maybe I should reinstall.

OK, here's the dropbox file (finally my stupid brain at least figured that out <img src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> )

    dl.dropbox.com/u/1963726/test_beginners_tutorial.capx

    thanks again for your help

  • okay, cannot upload to dropbox and cannot fix the issue, graphic driver is latest...

Somehow I expected a tool working a little better. Honestly, I'm disappointed. Forum responses have been really really fast but not getting the very first thing running in the first attempt on the first tutorial opening the very first time makes me a little bit nervous about this software's capabilities.

  • next issue (this gets annoying) ... how to share via dropbox if I have no one to put into the collaborator field in dropbox?

  • ok, first I'll try the graphics driver approach, if that doesn't work, Ill upload it to dropbox.

The layer seems not to be hidden btw...

  • Potato: exactly what I did several times

Johnny: it's the png provided in the tutorial

in preview (when I click the green play button) it works but not in the engine itself...?

btw: thanks for your lightning fast responses.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Hey there,

I feel like a total idiot. I have recently purchased Construct 2 and started with the beginners tutorial. I then came to the first real thing to do - inserting a background - and this already didn't work. ????

I followed the steps exactly as described in the beginners tutorial but I don't see the background image only a blue - slightly transparent - frame which seems to represent the tiled background object. I have inserted it in the texture editor and there I can see it. Then I clicked the red x to close the texture editor and see just this blue frame / square??

Any idea where I am failing?
