  • I can't wait to see the roster of submissions once the contest comes to a close. There's some real talent on these forums!

    Nice generic theme too! <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Hi

Of course transparent layers are fine, and while previously box collision, it's now polygon collision, so angles are fine.

You can animate either frame by frame or by algorithm like ragdoll animation. Check out physics demos..

  • I'm not suggesting it's your problem. More that Opera have mysteriously fallen behind on HTML5 and such. It's odd because it seems not long ago (err, 2 years) that they completely rewrote their JS engine (Carakan) yet Chrome and FF have jumped past them with their own JS developments. However, it could just be canvas rendering speed, or something not JS related at all.

Anyway, the browser competition will remain hot if end users are quite flexible with the browsers we choose.

  • Nice.

..splitting the packs ..or some other way of reducing the size.

  • Opera have about a 2% market share so I'm tempted to leave it - the big three (IE, Firefox and Chrome) seem to run it just fine...

A far as i've read, the 2% claim is American slant. Opera is the only non-American browser in your list. I heard that it has about %15 in some European countries, and as much as 20% in Russia.

For myself, having enjoyed supporting Opera for many years, i have finally switched to FF nightly build. Main reason is Opera doesn't yet support things like Drag & Drop, and have also fallen well behind on other HTML5/CSS3 support. Also C2 content was hard to test because Opera uses the arrow keys for scrolling the browser. But the final last straw was actually speed comparison.

    Btw, here's an interesting quote:

"IE supports DnD from IE5 but it doesn't support File API even in IE9.

Opera supports File API from 11.1 but doesn't support DnD."

  • Hey all. I've been away making one of these.. it's just opening.. so i'll add it to the list :)

    http://kustomzone.com

It currently supports Flash/Html5 (1 file) drag n drop uploading..

My preference for C2 demos (due to technical reasons) is for a zipped game folder, and the assets not in any subfolders. The zip name is assumed to be the game name, and everything sandboxed within that game folder under a persons user account.

Let me know what you think. cheers!

  • Firefox has promised about a 40% improvement of its performance by march 2012 (even sooner). The browsers war still emulates improvement on their part.

Yup, i've been using Opera for about a decade, but was recently forced to switch to FF nightly (UX-9) for this very reason. That '40% improvement' looks like a conservative estimate based on the JS/canvas demo i ran my cross-browser comparison on. I test and develop on crap hardware for the benefit of end users, but that doesn't mean i should not to run best software available for free. At least that way, if a user says "oh, i can't afford the latest hardware" then a simple link to a nightly build and a friendly ;O) should do it.

  • Can I ask if there's any particular reason you're holding back from staying up to date with r52?

Just that i've switched to prepaid data plan thru Android phone (only 1GB per month :P) but have increased this slightly from September.

r50 was 13MB. r51 was close to 18MB with examples. And r51 was slow download (either my side, or during high demand) but disconnected mid download with your server not supporting resume. (been catching up on six months of developments/demos so was running out of bandwidth ;)

Anyhow, r53 has just downloaded super fast without hitch, and ghost process appears resolved. Http server explains it well. Good catch!

  • Also got the unclosed processes regularly with r50 on WinXP-SP2, but able to close with task manager, so only a minor inconvenience. Only run a few tests with r51 and noticed it's still occurring. Haven't tried r52 yet.

    Anyone else?

  • To put some perspective on the Flash/HTML5 thing..

    ...

    But anyways, I hate webgames!

That was a good speech.. right until that last detail. <img src="smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Um.. just curious if Zako0 is part of the 'we' working on this? Was growing more concerned about him during past couple of weeks, but have seen him logged in once which alleviated some doubts about his wellbeing.

See, we do (somewhat selfishly) care about C2s best plugin makers!

  • OMG, in my country bread costs about 0.5$ or less.

    Seriously, 2$?

Yeah, cheapest white bread here is $2 aswell. Normal grain breads more like $4 or $5 a loaf. (700g)

Thinking about this years ago i had the idea that software prices should be in multiples of 1kg of rice, since rice is a world staple food, and at least has slightly higher margin in higher income countries.

Since we're playing the devil's advocate, the counter argument is quite interesting and goes like this; Since i'm paying double or triple (in whatever currency) i should therefore be allowed to earn double or triple before upgrading. Therefore ?5000 (in Chinese currency for example) might be as much as $50,000 yuan, which is still equivalent to ?5000 worth of value when converted back into local currency.

    (edit: adjusted yuan value)
