  • Thanks for the suggestion lwgames, I ended up using the nickname plugin which let's you create an instance of an object using an expression, so at selection I saved Characters.name to objectClicked then used Nickname to "create objectClicked". Works very well and reduces dupicate code. Thanks a lot Aphrodite for suggesting the plugin!

  • Thanks for the help, I'll check into these suggestions later. If I can't find a good solution I may make a request to scirra to let us spawn objects by expression. I know I'm not the only person that would benefit from this.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi,

I'm working on a tactical game where you can choose several different characters for a team. I don't want to create a block of code for each character for every action, for instance, selecting the character with the mouse to put in your team.

I tried to putting all of the characters into a family and giving them all a "name" variable. So I can click on a character from the family, then pick it based on the comparison of the name, and then spawn a new one over in the team queue.

The pick seems to work correctly if I use "set text" or something to view the result, but when I spawn "characters", it just grabs a random one out of the group still. I looked through the forums and found someone said to "pick all" first. This didn't work. It didn't sound like the same problem, but I thought I would try it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you for your time!

  • Thanks for the feedback Dom and Jason. I already have some better ideas. Appreciate your time!

  • I created a post about my new marketing service but no bites and very few views. I may have posted it in the wrong place (tools and resources), but I figured i'd ask people what they're using in case what I'm offering isn't as top notch as I think. So, post how you advertise for your games and check out my service Indie Pig. I developed it specifically to help other game developers.

    Here's the original post:

    Hello Everyone,

I've created a new marketing service specifically for game developers. Follow the link to read the explanation of services. http://www.nominalgames.com/ad_promo.html

To summarize, I basically run an ad campaign for 6 game developers at a time. Each developer contributes $50. I put together a campaign using buysellads.com and $300.90 will get about 1.25 million impressions on 8 different game sites. Even with only a 1% click-through rate, that's about 12,500 visitors.

The ad will take visitors to a landing page on my website that has a Youtube video composed of 6, 10 second clips, one for each game. Below that is a description and link to each website along with a twitter feed that displays tweets from each developer. Go here to see an example of the landing page http://www.nominalgames.com/indiepig.html

I do not charge any fees for my services. The $50 goes directly to buying ad space.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line:

  • Well, my kickstarter grabbed the attention of a mobile game developer, so we're going to work on a couple small projects and I'll get back to Pirate Treasure Attack! when I can afford more/better artwork. Thanks for the support!

  • Yeah, the games I make in Construct 2 seem to work best with chrome. I made a simple physics-based game and posted it to a forum and one guy said it ran so slow it wouldn't hardly do anything.

I think I'll speed up the ship a considerable amount and cut down the playing field a bit to speed up the action. I also plan to add asteroids to shoot to keep the game interesting once you destroy all of the enemy-spawning bases. I also plan to add power-ups, bonuses, and levels that consist of space invaders instead of the bricks.

I allowed the player to shoot the ball to help speed up the game when there are only a couple blocks left and sometimes it would get stuck bouncing completely horizontal. I'll probably have to use some special actions to get the bounce right instead of using the built-in bullet feature.

    Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

  • Hello!

I posted a game to the arcade a couple weeks ago, but it looks like no one has played it. It's just a fun little space shooter/brick breaker mash-up I put together, but I'd like some feedback.

    Here's the link:

Let me know what you think, and if you have a game on the arcade, I'll check it out and leave feedback as well!

    Thank you!

Thank you for your time and thank you Scirra for such great software!
