  • So you put a bunch of pre-made platforms outside the layout and told the game to pick one randomly to spawn into the game? Did you then also have an increasing run speed? I'm asking because I want to make one too and I'm having a hell of a time of it, and this might actually sort out a few of my problems.

  • Could I please get some more help with this?

  • Thanks for that tip, its good seeing a different way to go about it but it doesn't speed up at all, and since I'm still really learning I'm not sure how to implement that and other features I'd like into that, so I think that by doing this thing from scratch and having things explained as I go (as the tutorial does) I'll be able to learn more.

  • Hey guys, I'm having trouble getting the platforms in my infinite runner to spawn at controlled random distances.

I'm using the popular Multimedia Fusion youtube tutorial to go by and trying to modify it to fit within Construct 2, but naturally its a problematic process for me, particularly since I don't fully grasp some of whats going on (I have done a few Construct tutorials at least before trying this).

Here is the tutorial link: youtube.com/watch

I'm up to around 18:40 and just after that it shows a preview of the platforms generating at (controlled) random distances and it works well, but in my file it just spawn a consistent stream of platforms.

Here is a screenshot of my event sheet too: <img src="https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14998406/tutorialscreenshot.jpg" border="0" />

  • This thread is pure gold. Thanks for just happening to answer my question too :)

  • Thanks tonnes for your help, with a little mucking around I managed to get it to make the sub events where I wanted them and it all works now :)

  • I've been following the Building a Platform Game For Beginners tutorial, and I'm up to page 6 (here: scirra.com/tutorials/243/building-a-platform-game-a-beginners-guide/page-6 ).

I've followed the instructions as best as I can see, but there's something I must have missed (or incorrectly entered) because whenever the character drops down from platform 3 (the top) to platform 0 (bottom) its supposed to reset it all back to 0 again so that you can continue to accumulate points for jumping back up until you reach the score of 25 (or more).

Its pretty much just this last little thing before the tutorial is done, please help, and thanks in advance :)

  • Thanks for your response, you make a good point about having other objects referencing that data, as it doesn't look lioke it could be referenced from the place originally defined in the tutorial... could it?

And yeah, I do expect some things to change between tutorial and example, there were just a few things that would have been nice to know, for instance how the 'Game Over screen works. How does the 'Space' button know to work only when 'Game Over' is visible and the player is destroyed? And why is 'Game Over' loaded on start up and set to invisible instead of spawned on the HUD layer when the player dies?

  • It explains what each section does, and I can read that fine, I just don't know 'why' the changes are there, functionally, and also don't understand why they weren't in the original tutorial as they don't seem like hard things to add.

  • Well, for instance why the monster speed was moved up top to the global, could the stipulation of speed raising and score-grading based on speed not be done from where it was? why not?

Also how does the game know to only allow space bar to work as a 'start new game' function only when the player is dead?

  • I have finished the ghost shooter tutorial and it works fine, but when I downloaded the official finished version to compare the two, I noticed there are large fundamental differences that aren't explained and I was wondering if someone would place explain a few of them to me please?

    Here are the Event Sheet screenshots.<img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14998406/tutorialscreen1.jpg" border="0" /><img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14998406/tutorialscreen2.jpg" border="0" />

  • Added new layer, renamed old layer Game, New layer HUD, pasted text onto that layer, changed parallax settings for both layers and ding, all fixed. Thanks for the help guys :)

  • Thanks for the help there, dunno how I didn't see that!

  • Already a dropbox user so here we go :) Please let me know if u notice anything!

  • Hi all, I'm new to this forum and to Construct 2 and I have a bit of a query. I don't know how to attach my file as yet, so I'll jsut explain my issue for now.

I was doing the top down shooter tutorial, everything was going fine, then after I added "Global number Score = 0" the player started appearing in the bottom right just out of the screen, but could still be moved around as normal, but the bullets started shooting from a roughly central position on the screen and would only align with the player when it was in the rough area of them. Whats the go with that?
