  • Under the browser object the Open URL in new window action has a tag property that can use _parent and _top. Simply add this to an onClick event.

  • I've never tried it with C2, but in my experience of web-dev it's stupidly hard to get a decent direct donation to certain charities - the big ones like Cancer Research UK decline everything from SagePay to PayPal; they want you to go through their gateways.

    Depending on how much you want to raise it might be worth starting your own charity and then distributing the money as you see fit:

    charitycommission.gov.uk/start-up-a-charity

    The best advice I've got is to directly link to the organisation or JustGiving page you want to support - It's a few extra clicks and sadly that can make or break a donation... I imagine there's a good tax reason that large charitable organisations don't like 3rd party gateways but it's sure frustrating!

    PayPal had a charity thing called GivingFish or something, but that was terrible IIRC, quite shady.

  • Silly question, but your sprite is using the platformer behaviour yes?

    Your solid sprite might have the Initial state set to disabled, set it to enabled.

    The idea of a C2 gamejam with Scirra is intoxicating, though being a British student I'm also more than up for the other kind of intoxication!

  • For what it's worth it runs brilliantly on Chrome.

    Your problem might, and use the term jokingly, come from the fact that at any given time the game is handling 500+ objects.

    This is pretty easy to cut down, firstly you can use a library layer to store all the objects your current layout isn't using.

    The number of enemies could also be decreased, I was completely swarmed out of the gate and would never have got past the second group if I hadn't realised that touching your health bar clears the screen of enemies (A feature I imagine won't make it to the final build!)

    Maybe trim the particle effects a little bit? When your triggering it for every attack and reaction and can imagine it adding up.

    Overall though I really liked the game! Nice spin on the whole Abe Lincoln Vampire hunter deal!

    2)Varied.

    Performance can range from equal to PC to outright unplayable, as with all things it's down to how you make it, a graphics heavy game with tonnes of physic objects and particles is just not going to run well (Probably on anything!).

    Different horses for different courses, you can make a good performance game with C2 (The best example that comes to mind is Mortar Melon by Mudvark)but you're going to have to design with mobile in mind.

    3) See above. Generally speaking it's not very good if you're making lots of stuff react with each other, but I've made a few tests that had around 5-10 objects running physics and the performance was fine.

  • Really? I haven't used them, but most vendors eyes light up when I mention that the products run on PCs, mobiles and tablets.

    As opposed to Flash, which runs on PCs and Androids.

    You could quite easily set each of your rooms as a different layout and set your enemies to spawn on layout load, variables like player health, upgrades and XP could all be global.

    There's also the new Save/Load feature that would definitely help.

    For me personally I was very impressed with Scirra's conduct and the product, I was obligated to pay for the product because I felt they genuinely deserved the money, in fact when I thought the payment transfer may not have worked out properly I sent an e-mail to their support address and was rewarded with a flying monkey toy for my efforts, that's customer service!

    Sales and impulse buys are another big push, people are much more likely to shrug and part with their money if they think the opportunity could pass them by.

    With a legit copy your getting a solid product from a reliable source, a cracked .exe from a Russians computer packed with spyware and toolbars doesn't exactly entice me.

    The truth is you won't stop everyone, you're relying on the fact that your customers are honest individuals, and most of the time they are.

    Ah what a fool I've been! I see now what you're on about, you've made a similar program to C2 and want to know how Scirra handle piracy!

    I got confused as many members here use the term game engine to refer to the event sheets that power their games.

    In regards to your own engine, piracy is a fact of software development, just run with it, in some cases piracy can lead to conversion, but you should put your efforts into making a product that encourages people to buy it, not one that prevents people from pirating it.
