  • Aha! That did it. Thanks a lot!

  • instead of the second event use the system else condition. That was my first thought, but 'Else' is grayed out in the right-click context menu, and if I add it as a new event (or sub-event) it says "Else (not valid here)".

  • The logic for this sounded very easy in my head. But I can't get it to work like I want (or at all for that matter).

I want to create a flashlight that I can toggle on and off with the F key.

I have the flashlight object set to invisible from the start.

    Here's the logic.

--> Global number FlashlightOn = 0 (this represents 'off')

Event 1 - If Flashlight is Off:

    Condition 1 - If FlashlightOn = 0

Condition 2 - If 'F' key is pressed

Action 1 - Set "flashlight" object to visible

Action 2 - Set FlashlightOn value to 1 (this represents 'on')

Event 2 - If Flashlight is On:

    Condition 1 - If FlashlightOn = 1 ("On")

Condition 2 - If 'F' key is pressed

Action 1 - Set "flashlight" object to invisible

Action 2 - Set FlashlightOn value to 0 ("Off")

Without the second event (which I have a feeling is unnecessary), I'm able to get the flashlight to turn on. But I'm not able to toggle it off afterwards.

    Here's the event sheet:

Thanks for any help! I'm sure this is an easy thing to do. But I'm still new to C2!

  • ...ere's hoping they don't sue me for trying to help them spread their product lol.

I did remove it from Amazon. I'll talk to Ashley about it.

The reason I even put it on Amazon is because it's a quick and convenient way for users to get a portable version of the manual, while exposing potential new users to the product at the same time. So it's beneficial for the company and the product.

...he problem for me was that the .zip file unpacks with a folder of images. And you need that folder or nothing displays properly. The "ebook" version has the images embedded into the file itself so you only need to worry about that one file. It's more portable and convenient, and you're not tied to a computer or internet browser (that's why I made it, I wanted to sit in bed or kick back on the couch and read it without any internet distractions).

As far as updating it ? as long as he's not putting out new stable releases every day, I'm sure I could stay on top of it. It wouldn't take more than 10 minutes to update it to a new version, so it's not in any way time-consuming.

    ...hanks :D

  • Hey everyone. For my own convenience, I've converted the Construct 2 manual to a Kindle format. I'm currently working on converting it to other ebook formats for you all as well (I'll keep this post updated with links).

It's set to publish on Amazon for $0.99, and then I have to jump through a few hoops with price matching to get them to make it free (which takes around a month).

Obviously I don't intend to sell somebody else's work, so while we're waiting for all that to happen, I've provided a link below to the temporary Kindle Version (complete with a clickable Table of Contents!)

If anyone DOES happen to buy a copy from Amazon in the mean time, I'll be sure to promptly send the money to Ashley (via Paypal or other method) whenever it shows up in my account.

I made this so I could read up on Construct away from my computer, and I thought that might be useful for others as well.

P.s. I may need a mod to fix the link. I don't think I enough rep to post links yet, so I've added a few spaces to break it :).

  • I just drew my characters, scanned them in, cut them apart in the computer and put some finishing touches on them before importing them into spriter. It must save a ridiculous amount of time over drawing each frame separately and, as has been pointed out, it's a steal at $25.lright. I'm convinced!

This will give me a good excuse to brush up on my drawing skills >:D.

  • Is it necessary to be skilled in sprite making to use this program? I'm tempted to get it, but I'm a total noob at sprite making.

But it does sound nice to not have to draw each sprite frame separately and to just draw the body parts and move them.

  • Any chance this plugin will be supported in the Arcade? I'm building a game around a countdown clock using this plugin.

If not, will the lack of support for this plugin effect the game, should I decide to export for mobile or other platform?

In other words, should I quit while I'm ahead, before I go making an entire game, only to find out it won't play correctly outside of C2? lol.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Keeps saying only members with sufficient privileges can post here... I dunno.

I basically just need a big square to slide over the layout. It will pretty much be covering everything as it follows the player to the goal. I can figure out how to set up everything else. I just don't know how to get the "big square" layer to move without interacting with the platforms.

For some reason I can't post links.

  • Can't post in the "How do I?" forum for some reason... Got an "authentication error" so can one of the mods move this over there? Sorry.

I'm messing around and trying to recreate one of those running games where a cloud or some other instant-death-causing thing is chasing you, and you have to escape. I have everything set up, but with the platforms in the way, either the "cloud" object doesn't show up at all, or it doesn't move because it's overlapping other solids.

I've played a game on here that used this system so I know it's possible. I just don't know how to get around this problem. I pretty much just need it to float above all the other layers.

Any help is appreciated, thanks :).

  • Well, I can tell you that I bought the Steam version compulsively today, and just found out that it's already 3 versions behind the site version. Plus, as people already said, it's tied to my account so I can't open it without Steam... and should my internet ever go out, that means I can't open it at all (Steam requires an internet connection to log in).

    Lesson learned!

Correction. The Steam version is up to day. It seems one of the files I tried to open was from the BETA which gave me the warning that my version was too old. ;D
