  • Got it. So start with the Box object and Text objects. That will help. I wasn't even sure if those objects were the right ones to use. Do you know if there is a way to make a Box object adjust its size based on what's inside it (text, for example). Also, what does the Text Manipulator object do? There's nothing in the Wiki on it yet. Lastly, is there anything I should know about combining the Text and Box objects?

  • Hi everyone, I've been looking through the Construct Wiki and forums trying to find a basic tutorial on this subject and haven't found anything that would help me get started. Is there a thread I've missed about creating a user interface with multiple menus for a game with Construct? I'm also interested in creating some kind of dialogue system with a consistent look (like in RPGs). Is there a tutorial out there that I haven't seen or some other help I could get with this? Any links or advice on these topics would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Here's another great little program that I found for those of us who are interested in making tiled maps. It's by a Brazilian developer who codes in Java. Anyway, it's about half a meg in size, easy to use, allows you to make custom tile sets and use as many as you want, supports pretty much unlimited map layers, etc. And it's free. It's called Tiled. FYI to use it you have to download the current incarnation of Java. Here's the link:

And here's a link to Java:

  • GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program). It takes a little getting used to for people who are used to programs like Photoshop, but it's open source and free. I've been impressed with the program. It's kinda overkill for basic sprite art, but for more complex stuff it's great. Here's the link:

  • Hi everyone, I have a suggestion for the Picture Editor to make it a bit more intuitive to use. After I uploaded my image to the editor, there wasn't any kind of button (like "Accept" or "Submit" or "Add Image to Objects List") to let me know what to do next.

Would it be possible to have a button that allows us to confirm that we want to add the image we just uploaded to the Picture Editor to the objects list instead of having to close the window to do so?

I now understand that closing the window adds the image to the objects list, but the first time I tried to upload something I sat there looking for a button in the Picture Editor GUI for about 10 seconds trying to figure out what the next step was. In every other program I use, choosing to close a window cancels what you were about to do (even if it gives you an option to save something), so it wasn't obvious that closing the window would add the image to the object list. Even the "Save" prompt's purpose was misleading at first. When it popped up I thought, "I just closed the editor, so I guess it's just asking me to save the file to my drive in case I made changes." FYI, I did read the entire Wiki section on the Picture Editor before attempting to upload anything and there wasn't anything in there about closing the editor to finish adding the image to the objects list. I also watched the video tutorial before using Construct and I guess I missed the step where he closes the editor to add the image.

I know this is a very minor suggestion for the Picture Editor, but as a new user it seemed like the GUI was missing a button for that final uploading step.

  • I reported the bug and uploaded the file. The .cap file is blank at the moment, though, because the first thing I tried was to upload a .png after I started a new DirectX9 game file project. Anyway, hope you guys can figure out what the problem is. Construct is a neat program.

  • Hi Rich, thanks for the quick reply. I actually did try that option yesterday and the program crashed on me. It worked the first time (cut the tiles up, though my tileset wasn't set up properly, so the tiles were more like pieces of different tiles than discrete tiles) and then every time I right-clicked on that section it immediately crashed to the desktop.

I didn't report a bug because I thought maybe I had done something strange, or that it was my system, because it worked the first time (and it was late). I thought that maybe there was some other way I was supposed to be importing resources that I didn't know about. I can try to reproduce this error tonight and upload a .cap file if that would help.

  • Hi everyone, new user of Construct here. I've read the FAQ, done searches through the forums, read the Wiki, etc. and still haven't found a direct answer to my question. Is there a way to import an entire tileset, or groups of images on a sheet, at once rather than having to manually cut up each individual item and load them as separate images?
