  • last question...

    what processor do you have?

I'm looking at Core 2 Duo vs i3 vs i5 right now

This laptops sole purposes will be:

    Construct 2 dev & testing

    NXT-G (Lego Robotics)

    Arduino Development

    Web Browsing

  • That is good to know.

Is 4GB of RAM enough? I found a cheap refurbished machine, but it has 4GB of ram.

Also...any experience with AMD vs Intel?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I am looking at the laptop below. Is the touchscreen on Windows 8 laptops adequate for testing apps that would be bought in the store (via tablets)? I am assuming this laptop would allow me to develop and test apps, but it's not clear to me if these touch screen laptops work exactly like a tablet would.

If not, then I can buy a cheaper laptop and a cheap W8 tablet. Just looking at all my options and hoping y'all have experience with this to help in making my decision.

  • thanks

  • I'm looking at getting a new laptop and want to make sure that Construct 2 installs on Windows 8. I have no machine with Windows 8 as of now. I know it exports Windows 8 apps, but I'm more concerned with developing on Windows 8.

  • For those having trouble with the download and getting it started...go to funstormgames.com/blog/construct-2-log-to-chrome-console-plugin

  • Love It!!! Thank you very much

  • Thanks everyone...that explains it and gave me a good solution that works. I appreciate a community that is friendly and helpful. Eventually I will have a better understanding of this tool and can return the favor to new users

  • I have created two functions (thank you for making functions possible!)

    initDeck() and shuffleDeck()

in the event "On Layout Start", I call initDeck() which creates the physical cards on screen. This works no problem.

After that is called, the shuffleDeck() function is called (still within the On Layout Start event).

shuffleDeck is not able to pick created objects for events (ie: DeckOfCards) and therefore does not shuffle the cards.

My shuffle function works as expected, if I place the call within a mouse event (ie: middle button clicked), but not if I call it within "On Layout Start" right after the objects have been created.

  • That appears to be what it was. I wanted to make different functionality for each instance so I created separate object types. And in another case, I wanted to easily be able to change the object dynamically in "code" so having separate object types made that easier, but then duplicated the resources which I don't want to do.

Is there a way to have different object types share a sprite sheet so that it's not necessary to duplicate it. I could make a work around using instance variables to change functionality too I suppose.

  • Maybe there is a better way to do this, but...

When I create multiple instances of the same object and then export it to HTML 5 it creates a separate sprite sheet graphic in the export even though all of those objects use the same sheet/images.

Of course I can create some objects dynamically and avoid this, but it seems to me that they should share the same sprite sheet resource automatically.

NOTE: I created the sprite sheet by loading multiple images into the objects sprite. Maybe that has something to do with it?

  • When duplicating layouts, I would like the new layout to copy the layer locks as well.

I have a couple of generic layouts (templates) that I copy (duplicate) throughout the project. There are a few layers within the template layout which contain visual design aids (opaque boxes to section off areas of the interface) which are invisible at run-time. I keep those locked so that they don't accidentally move, delete, etc them.

At the moment, if I duplicate the layout then the layers are duplicated but the layer locks are not the same as the originally duplicated layout.

    Thanks for reviewing my request.
