  • Does anyone have a single resource that lists the graphic requirements for both the App Store and the Play Store?

I've got all my icons resized and named, but I need a list of dimensions for screenshots and header banners etc, all with the correct naming conventions.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks all

  • I don’t understand why piracy occurs with free games.

Do people download them, crack them then reupload with their own code and adverts in. Is that it?

  • ...broken link.

  • What’s the benefit of pirating free apps? What’s there to gain?

  • So I need to get my marketing list in order before I launch.

Does anyone have a list of review blogs or YouTubers who review hyper casual games?

    Thanks all.

  • So I finally managed to create a signing key, build via Phonegap and install a debug.apk for my app and install it on my Android test phone.

Does having a debug.apk mean I now have a valid file to upload to the PlayStore if I wanted to, or do I need a different file?

    Thanks all

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • OK - so I finally managed to create a signing key, build via Phonegap and install a debug.apk for my app and install it on my Android test phone.

However when I run app the Admob test banners display but the interstitials don't. After every 10 deaths an interstitial is supposed to appear - the code says if interstitial hasn't loaded then carry on as normal, which is what the app does.

However, the same app when exported and run on my iPhone does display the interstitials. For these ads I'm using the UltimateAds plugin.

The whole app itself runs a lot slower on my test Android phone - I'm guessing it has a much slower processor than my iPhone - could this be the issue? Anybody else had similar issues or ideas why this happens?

  • Bootfit you can sign APK files without android studio using either the apksigner or jarsigner command line tools. Android studio basically just wraps those tools to streamline the process. I believe there's more than one way to generate a signing certificate but the main one is using the command line tool keytool. I'm actually in the process of adding APK signing and keystore generation to C3, although it will only work with the build service not Phonegap Build. Although I believe Phonegap build might offer a service to sign your APK for you? It could be on one of the paid tiers though.

Incidentally you don't need a signing certificate to register as an Android developer, and unsigned debug APKs can be installed onto a phone without being a registered developer.

Sorry folks, I'm new to all this and am gettingconfused.

I thought you had to pay a one-off £25 fee to become and Android dev, or was the £25 fee to be able to post your apps in the Google Play Store (whole thing is confusing me.)

I need to have a signing key to be able to build my app in Phonegap - are you saying I can generate these keys without being an Android dev?

In regards to using the Command Line - I'm working on a Mac so don't have access to a Command Line.

I have downloaded a version of Android Studio though - can I create signing keys etc through this to then use in Phonegap?

Also, whats an unsigned debug APK?

Thanks all - I appreciate all the help you're giving.

  • I’ve just asked this same question on Reddit and someone PMd me an answer...

[quote:3ujubg4i]you can upload it to google play but a sign app can only be done by programing in Android studio. In other words, the files you got now need to be turn into acceptable programs for android devices. After all that mess to make a apk, you can upload it.

im writing this in pm because r/gamedev will block users who speak the truth.

So how do I get to build my app in phonegap then add to the Google Play Store?

Surely many of you have an Android dev account and know the stages of going about this?

  • I’m ready to start testing my app on my android phone, so I’ll need to register for an android dev account (I think).

Can someone point me towards where/what I need to register along with points on creating signing keys etc so I can publish on the Google Play Store?

    Thanks all.

  • Been thinking about adding a universal leaderboard to my app, but like everybody else I'd also like the app to have a chance of going viral.

The thing is, for an app to go viral users need to share their scores/screenshots/etc across social media, but would users actually do that if a leaderboard was in place? They'd be more focussed on their place on the leaderboard as the people they're competing against are already on there - and this then satisfies their desire for a Look at my highscore! Bet you can't beat this... type of social sharing, as they don't care about the wider world, just the users already on the leaderboard. And this leads for a more insular experience and less of a desire to share.

Obviously you can have both leaderboard and social share buttons - and while I think having a leaderboard does bring people back to have one more go and slowly work their way up, I also think leaderboards can work against social sharing and the desire to brag.

What's everyone's thoughts on this - leaderboard or not?

  • Awwwww. Can we keep him?

  • For my game to start, I want the user to be pressing both Button01 and Button02.

How can I code it where I get something along the lines of:

System > If Button01 is pressed AND Button02 is pressed > goto PLAY FUNCTION

Do I need a couple of Global Variables?

eg: When Button01 = "Pressed" AND Button02 = "Pressed" > goto PLAY FUNCTION

    Thanks all

  • It’s where a pop up with “Rate our app” (or similar) with a set of stars appears.

If the solution is to link to the app on the App Store, do we get to know the url of the app before we submit, or do we have to submit the app and get it live and then do an update with the url in place?

  • That’s disappointing. In which case why don’t we see more games being hacked and players accessing and sharing in-game secrets and achievements that normally only come with getting better at the game?
