Ashley's Forum Posts

  • Why not post a .cap?

  • Have you tried using the search box? Just hitting a few of the letters of the object name you're after should filter down the list pretty quickly and make it easy to find what you're looking for.

  • This is done now. I've also updated a bunch of stickies with new information. Let me know if there's any other changes you think should happen.

  • If you've gone to the trouble of creating an addon, do yourself a favour and make a nice, informative post for it

    • If it's an effect, posting a screenshot of what it does will help people decide if they want to download it.
    • If it's a plugin or behavior, you should start a wiki page to document it, and link to it.
    • Don't forget a clear description of what it is and what it does!
  • This forum lists addons available to Construct: plugins (objects), behaviors (e.g. movements), and pixel shader effects.

    Adding a plugin or behavior

Plugins and behaviors are stored in two .csx files: one for the editor, and one for runtime. First close all instances of Construct, then copy the files to the Construct install directory under the Plugins folder and Plugins\Runtime folder respectively. When you restart Construct the new plugin or behavior should be available.

    Adding an effect

The process is the same as above, but you will be copying a .fx file to the Effects directory.

  • OK, I'll go ahead and do this reorg tomorrow, so long as there are no new complaints.

  • Really good tutorials can and should be added to the wiki - but those are aimed at general beginner tutorials, guides for a specific area shouldn't be on that page... maybe another wiki page could be made?

  • Don't know, no need to worry about that till the time.

  • This is a phpbb3 forum - it's been enough of a headache in the past I'm not really keen to change it

  • I'm not a big fan of subforums. I think they hide their contents too well, I'd guess top level forums get a lot more viewage.

  • I've started a new topic about a forum reorg here.

Since this thread has evolved offtopic and there's a new thread to carry it on, I'm going to lock this one. Let's take the discussion to the new thread

  • There's been talk of reorganising the forum so I thought I'd put a separate thread here.

I don't want to sub-divide forums such as splitting 'Your Creations' in to 'Work in progress' vs. 'Completed creations', because I don't see any point until the forum is literally bursting at the seams, and none are just yet. But this might make things a little simpler and more straightforward. Here's the new organisation I propose:

    Construct forums

Help & Support using Construct (previously Help / Tech Support, moved to top)

    Construct Discussion

Remove 'Feature Requests' - move all posts in to Construct Discussion which will contain combined feature requests, announcements, plans, polls, etc)

    Your Tutorials & Example files

Remove 'Uploads' - despite the description, bug report files should actually be put on the tracker, so the real purpose of this is examples/guides/nice effects/tech demos etc that people find interesting - this can all go in 'Your Tutorials & Example files', propose all posts be moved there as well

Completed Addons (currently subforum to Uploads, make top level forum)

---- Work in progress addons (subforum)

    General

Your Creations (OK as it is IMO)

    Open Topic

    Developers

    Construct Engineering

I think this will make things less confusing. Sound like a good plan?

  • Note gmerriment that you replied to a thread nearly a year old which has bumped it.

As Davioware said we plan Construct 2 to use OpenGL, but we don't currently have any plans to port the editor to any platform other than Windows. Runtimes are easier to port, porting a complex GUI app is much harder.

  • If anything, I'm looking to remove as many forums as possible. For example I recently switched the Announcements forum to a simple link to the Twitter feed, because as a forum it was never updated, and the Twitter has better and more regular information on it.

I don't want to add any forums unless it's obvious one is necessary - I don't think it's obvious, yet, that a 'completed creations' section is necessary. People seem to be doing OK with the Your Creations forum as it is now.

I was actually thinking about merging 'Feature Requests' in to 'Construct Discussion' - there's no clear difference between them IMO. What's Construct Discussion for if not feature requests, tutorials or uploads? I'd rather have feature requests discussed in Construct Discussion and have fewer forums. What do you think? It's kind of ambiguous having them separate like this, they're two forums about the same thing really IMO. Plus, we're not focusing on new features right now, just stabilisation.
