  • There seemed to be pretty good support for the game, especially early on, which gave it a favorable yes ratio. I guess that helped get it Greenlit quickly. Thanks for the useful info, I'll be going through all the Steam paperwork in coming days.

  • Well Cluckles was successfully Greenlit with 725 yes votes (60% of the total vote) after about 12 days.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who voted. I know quiet a few people from this forum voted for the game and left positive comments because I recognised several avatars and user handles. So thanks a bunch for the support guys!

Btw. Ads appear now on my device ????

Awesome! What level are you up to?

  • Thanks guys ultrafop ,

Let me know what you think of it ultrafop. Im trying to encourage discussion / develop community over on the official Cluckles subreddit if you felt like posting there. No pressure though, only if you feel like it.

C2 for the win! I love it. It allowed me to build my first game.. and Ill be making more games with it once ive finished tweaking this current project.

  • Hi thanks for the response.

...What you should have tested though is the latest Cordova WKWebView plugin in XDK. See if that helps first since 1.0.3 is ancient and there have been lots of fixes since.

Yes, while Ive always made sure to keep XDK and C2 updated I didnt realise I needed to update XDK plugins as well.. It was your posts on page 2 of this thread that woke me up to that. I had been using Cordova WKWebView Engine 1.0.3. Ive since made a build with v 1.1.0 of the plugin. Its been 'Internally Tested' by a few different people on versions iOS 9 and 10 (thanks to the guys who from the forum who helped me out with that) and its currently still waiting for review and release in iTunesConnect.

I dont use minify when I export as Ive read previously that it can cause problems, so thats not an issue.

...I read that thread on TA, seems it's fixed with your recent update! Was it by using a more recent plugin?

Ive followed the discussion on TA as well. Its strange but, the update they installed (Cluckles v1.1.3) which seems to have helped, has no fixes aimed at the blackscreen issue and the build is still using WKWebView Engine 1.0.3 That update of my game was already in review on iTunesConnect when I realised there was a black screen issue that needed addressing.

Cluckles v1.1.3 just had a bunch of minor fixes to do with gameplay mechanics, fixing urls, fixing bugs with ad delivery. Nothing I could see that would fix the problem with start up. So tbh its just luck that it seemed to help the blackscreen issue in some (all?) cases

The build that is currently on iTunesConnect waiting for review (Cluckles v1.1.4) has Cordova WKWebView Engine updated to 1.1.0. And the testing Ive been able bring to bear hasn't given a single blackscreen (but its only about 7-8 devices that its been tested on)... I guess ill find out if its truly fixed once the build is released into the wild.

...ps. Just noticed it was 3 days ago, so that's pretty quick that Apple release updates. It used to take 10-14 days for updates to go past reviews, so launching a game with bugs on iOS = DEAD.

My experience so far has been that Apple takes about 4-5 business days to review an update.

I think Ive been lucky that there are a lot more Apple devices that are running the game without a hitch, than devices giving a black screen. So the guys who can actually play the game are leaving good reviews and outnumbering the guys who are leaving 1 star due to frustrations with black screens.. Hopefully after Cluckles v1.1.4 is released the blackscreen issue will cease and there'll be no more 1stars :'(

Over in Android land its much more positive. Everyone's mostly happy there... just less of them at this point.

  • Ok I see what you mean. Well I have orientation set to Landscape in both C2 project settings and XDK build settings. I dont think im doing anything else to control the orientation.

  • PixelPower hey man thanks for this info and thanks for posting on reddit for me. I contacted those guys at APK4Fun through their website, as I wasnt able to message them on Twitter if they dont follow me already. I submitted the game for review on their site.

Also Ill post something in that reddit group you found.

...How did you manage to make landscape works with both angles (sides)

Sorry Ahmed I'm not sure what you're asking. In project settings I have Full Screen Scaling set to 'Scale Outer' if that helps.

  • Maybe updating intel XDK would fix that issue. But for me I have no problems on my iPhone and Ipad !!

Im using the latest XDK (3759) and C2 beta 241. I realised I was using an older version of the XDK plugin: 'Cordova WKWebView Engine'. I upgraded that from 1.0.3 to the latest v1.1.0.. So I have an updated version of the game, using the newer plugin currently in Internal Testing on iTunesConnect and also submitted for release.. blindly hoping that will improve the situation.

I was told it could be a performance issue... I think maybe it requires too much cpu on startup? So weaker Apple devices dont like it and can't start the game? But I dont know if thats really the case...

ahmed Elgamal , what Apple devices do you have and which iOS versions are they running?

On twitter search for android youtubers and tweet to them. Most important tags #IndieDev and #Indiegames you will get more retweets with those tags.

Also here are more tags to get you downloads #AndroidGames #Googleplay #RetroGames #RetroGamer

Thanks for the tags.. I have no idea how to use Twitter.. learning.

  • Hi There is indeed a secret area in Level5 where a chick could be hiding. You need to keep an eye out for helpful Butterflies, they can point the way to secret areas. Also remember, to drop down through platforms you need to swipe down on the screen. If you didn't realise that, you might have missed the instructions on the Tutorial level (level1). It might be a good idea to revisit the tutorial level1 and read all the signs.

You can visit the Cluckles Adventure subreddit page. There you'll find walkthroughs and general information for finding secret areas and beating levels. If you have a request for a walkthrough for a specific level, just post on the subreddit.

  • > Hi Anonnymitet , I checked. Its the Australian iTunes store.. not sure if its featured on any other iTunes stores. Which AppStore country / region are you?

    >

I'm in Sweden so that explains it. I can also inform you that I couldn't start the game on any of my iPads, one iPad 2 and one iPad Air both running iOS 10.2. Just a black screen.

Seriously??? WTF! I have no idea whats going on with that.. I've tested it on my iPhone5 with iOS 10.1.1 and it runs great! And Ive had friends test it out on various devices running iOS 9 and they seem to have no problems either.. It seemed from early reports that the problem was mostly with iOS 9, but judging from your experience its iOS 10 as well.

Man.. I have no idea why some Apple devices are giving back screens while others aren't. Obviously many people are getting this problem because the game is getting hammered with 1 star reviews on the AppStore &!@*#&*(@)(

At any rate I have an update on iTunesConnect waiting for review. It has been built with an updated version of the XDK Cordova WKWebView Engine plugin (v1.1.0, updated from 1.0.3). Im hoping that will help things, but I'm not certain... and I'm limited in my ability to test as I only have 1 Apple device.

Anonnymitet any chance you'd want to test this updated alpha build for me as an Internal Tester? You'd need to test it through TestFlight and pm me your AppleID linked to your devices so I can add you as an Internal Tester.

  • Man, that's incredible, did Apple tell you about this or did you discover it?

I noticed a spike in installs on my Chartboost acc yesterday morning. So I went searching to find the cause and discovered it was featured on AppStore. Apple didn't contact me about it.

  • I currently have a request for iOS alpha testers posted in the jobs forum.

If you have an Apple device running iOS 9 and you'd like to help by testing a build of my game on your device, check this thread:

Request for iOS Alpha tester(s) - Cluckles Adventure

    Thanks!

  • Hello. I currently have a game released on iOS called Cluckles' Adventure, and I have reports from some users that its giving a black screen on startup. It seems to be happening to people with versions of iOS 9.

I'm currently trying to fix this bug and I'm looking for a few people with iOS 9 on their Apple device to test a build of my game using TestFlight.

I have play tested the game during development on iOS 10 and it works with no problems.

Specific iOS versions mentioned by people experiencing the blackscreen are:

    9.3.2

    9.3.3

    9.3.5

If you'd like to volunteer please contact me by PM and send the email address linked to you AppleID. Ill add your email as an Internal Tester and you will be able to install alpha test versions of the game on your Apple device via TestFlight.

I would ask that you report back to me whether the game can successfully launch on your device running iOS 9.

    Thanks!

  • Edit: Tried to find it on the store front under "new games we love" but couldn't on my app store

Hi Anonnymitet , I checked. Its the Australian iTunes store.. not sure if its featured on any other iTunes stores. Which AppStore country / region are you?

    > Congrats! Now put an ad in your game and tell them to vote for it on greenlight Would be cool to hear about the ad revenue for chartboost now when you'll get a lot of users.

    >

    > And by going though the roof what kind of download numbers are we talking about?

    >

If you're comfortable sharing this information, I'd be interested in it too.

Hey glerikud , Anonnymitet yes Ill post details about install numbers and revenue sometime in the future. Its still currently featured on the Aust AppStore. I'll wait until a little while after they stop featuring the game.. then I can report on what install numbers / revenue were like before, during and after being featured.

Right now im stressing because I have reports of black screens on iOS 9. I have a bunch of 1 star reviews on the AppStore which I assume are related to this bug... have to try and fix this asap. Posted to ask about it here.

Let me know if you guys have any advice on this bug. thnx

  • Thanks Yeah I found a discussion on TouchArcade where a few users mentioned they were getting black screens on iOS 9, which is a pretty big problem. So I need to fix that asap..
