  • Look at the origin point of the Alien sprite. Right click, quick assign, middle.

Mwah ha ha! You're in my debt!

    *Doh, sniped!

    Curse you mindfaQ!

  • Scirra offered a discount on here a few weeks back. The two don't need to go hand in hand.

  • From what I can tell, C2 appears to do Windows 8 phone apps already, and for the time being, potentially better than Android apps.

Don't quote me on that though. I have a feeling something good may be in-store for us regarding Android soon, but again, not sure.

My finished game runs quite poorly on Android atm, so I'm waiting for either CocoonJS (wrapper) to be updated, or something official from Scirra.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • "Guys, i do not intend to participate in this competition (mostly because i don't believe that you can produce something worthwhile in ~20 minutes)"

It's not meant to be worthwhile. It's meant to be fun and quick. Something that brand new users can take part in. That's why I'm encouraging people share their capx and videos of them doing it. Think of it as a mass tutorial :)

Plus, the best one gets a prize.

  • EncryptedCow

Nice! Do you have a capx?

  • Hi lennaert's friend!

You want to make a new video?

My time of 20 mins isn't going to be counted as entering the contest, but it's a good base line. I have no issue with sounds being used, and you will get better points for it. I just wanted people to use the tools within Construct 2, and not go off and make a 3D object, import it in, then jump over to Photoshop and make a beautiful background, etc.

40 minutes isn't a bad time though, however I'd aim to beat 20mins if you want to be in with a shot :)

Best of luck to you if you do decide to make a vid!

  • Kurz

How long did it take you?

  • To get things started, here's my entry!!!

    Pong Challenge Submission

I spent around 22 minutes, making a very subpar game. I'd like to tweak it a little as I managed to confuse myself half way thorugh and had to hack the game a little to make it playable to get a faster time :)

    Ho ho ho!

Anyway, here's the capx: AnD4D Capx

I give myself a solid 2 out of 10, giving me a grand total of 20 minutes.

So, as long as you beat 20 minutes, you're in with a chance!!!

    Roll up! Roll up!

I've been looking forward to a new competition for a while, but there doesn't appear to be anything in the works just yet, so I figured I'd do one of my own!

    Challenge

Make a working single player Pong game AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!

    Rules

    • Game must have a score
    • Game must be single player by mouse or keyboard
    • Must be produced using ONLY Construct 2 (No Photoshop, etc)
    • No 3rd party behaviours or plugins
    • Must be recorded showing the working process
    • Must provide CAPX of finished version

    Who can enter?

Anyone! Pong is simple enough to be able to be made using the free version of Construct 2. I did it in 7 events.

ONLY 1 ENTRY PER PERSON!!! Make sure your time is the fastest, before you enter for a chance to win!

Sounds great! How do I enter?

Now this may be a bit of a stumbling block for some. You need to record the whole of your time creating the game in one sitting from start to finish, post it to somewhere like YouTube and post the link on here.

You can use fraps, snagit, camtasia, etc...

Feel free to speed up the video, as I'd rather not sit and watch 20 minutes straight. Also, post your time and a capx of your finished game for others to see.

It doesn't have to be an awe-inspiring piece, but it must work in some way, shape or form.

Remember, do it in one sitting, and record the whole thing. If you speed it up, it might be a good idea to show a clock or a timer.

Sounds great! How do I win?

Simple! Just make a game as quickly as you can. At the end, I'll rate your game out of 10, and subtract 1 minute for each level of rating you get.

For example, if you take 20 minutes making your game, and you make the best Pong game ever, getting a perfect 10/10, I'll take 10 minutes off of your time, giving you a total of 10 minutes!

    Do I win a prize?

Now this is the disappointing bit :( I'd love to offer a C2 standard or business license, but I don't have the funds to just pay out.

I do, however, have a stupidly large Steam list, with a number of duplicate games in my gift list, so I'll let the winner pick from the below selection:

    • Half Life 2
    • Half Life 2: Episode 1
    • Terraria
    • Dungeon Defenders
    • Dead Space Pack
    • Cthulhu Saves the World
    • Breath of Death VII
    • Left 4 Dead 2
    • Trine 2: Complete Story

Sorry about the lack of AAA titles, or new games, but it's better than nothing. Also, for fun, I'll give out a mobile key to my game Internal Invasion to the winner and one lucky runner up... when I finally get to export it...

    You lucky people you!!!

    When is the deadline?

Let's pick a random date... how about the 24th of December. I'll see if I can give someone a nice Xmas present!!!

So, on your marks, set... GO!!!

  • Tom - Yup, still broken it seems. As far as I know, I can't even update my profile to show any update on here. I changed my image weeks ago, but it's still showing the old one.

  • Tobye - I'd really enjoy working on a game with another construct 2 user. The problem with C2 is that the user base are primarily designers and artists, and all have their own games already planned out.

This generally leads of conflict. Also, the software isn't exactly easily open to collaboration unless it's perfectly planned out.

The best kind of collaboration is when a programmer and an artist come together.

    How's your graphical skills? <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • Space Station Fighter 2 is brilliant!

  • Competitions can be a great way to promote Construct 2.

I'm surprised that there isn't an official or commissioned Scirra game already out to help promote Construct 2.

I remember Blender had that god awful Elephant Dreams video (Which looked amazing). YoYo Games have released quite a few game. I'm sure there's more to add to that list.

Pull a few talented volunteers together and either produce a nice little advertising piece, tidy seller, or maybe even both!

I feel like taking part in a competition. The last one I remember was for Windows 8, which is a shame because I don't have Windows 8. Would be nice if it was slightly more open somehow. Make a PC game using Node? Get onto Steam? Make an Android game?
