  • Hi,

I'm doing a draggable options box that you can call up in my game. I'm wondering, will i have to do an "always set options text to Optionsbox.X+43" etc. for all the objects i want to stick to the objects box when its being dragged. Or is there some clever simple way?

The problem with doing it in code is also that it takes a while to get the objects at the right position. I don't really mind doing it this way, but i thought i'd check if there was a better way.

  • Ok ash I've uploaded an example. Having the same issues in the example as in my main program.

Basically, the code is meant to move the star 50 pixels to the right when it hits the left edge of the viewport. (of course in the game i would not do 50 pixels, i would just set it to the rightside of the viewport).

Maybe i'm just using it wrong... Can you take a look at it Ash?

  • Having trouble getting the "stars" in this example to move when they hit the left side of the viewport.

  • Yeah i remember thinking it was awesome. But turns out i haven't opened it a second time. The only reason i was playing it is because I had somewhere to be and was procrastinating

Its not bad. Its just not that good.

  • Ash, can you verify that this isn't in this build? Or am I just doing it wrong?

  • Yeah that style is sweet. Looks very dark, just the way i like it!

  • Haha awesome! Sounds like an NTL job though. Be prepared for constant disconnects

  • not sure if its my place to go here, so ashley please feel free to delete this post if its undesireable.

I'm not sure if its a good idea to go into the whole clickteam vs scirra thing. please correct me if im wrong but It was basically because Ashley used to use MMF2 alot and was close with the devs. He then started making construct and as the products are quite similar in some ways, there was a little bit of friction there.

I don't know the exact details, but i know that rumors and stuff made it escalate, alot of which were based on nothing (I should know, i later found out that when a website related to CT went down, someone pointed the finger over here but it was actually my fault! Lulz).

But yeah, i think Ashley would probably like this to be end of

  • I did a test of this, I did when

    smallstar.X is less than ScrollXLeft("stars_far")
     = Set smallstar.x to "smallstar.x + 50
    [/code:2ss23ef4]

This results in you moving to the right, then the stars just fly off the screen to the right. So it appears that the ScrollXLeft("Stars") bit is moving to the right.

I couldn't find how to manually do ScrollXLeft("Stars"), i just typed it in and it didn't complain...
  • I suppose my question is more "How do you check when a star has left the screen when using scroll rates, as scroll rates affect X,Y positions (2 objects may be overlapping, but if they are on different layers with different scroll rates their X,Y positions may be completely different)"?

And also, which side of the screen the star just left.

Any Ideas? Not entirely sure how this works in construct.

  • Haha awesome! Man, being a pro gamer would be such a strange experience. Being paid... to game.

  • Definately wouldn't mind taking a gander at that stuff if you have it at hand. As for concept art, that would be pretty awesome if you could draw up some stuff. Ships are all top view at the moment, so while other views are also good, top view is what will be seen ingame

I'll give you a PM on it.

  • Souljah, are you in str8 rippin?! I may hit you up for some art and stuff at some point if its cool dude

Faggatron those are so horrible combined with hilarious.

  • How did you end up doing your starfield, by the way? I noticed that if you fly far enough away from the planet then you can see the edge of the top layer of stars.

Yeah, i haven't finished the starfield yet

I'd love to take a look at that Souljah, I'm not sure what it contains or anything, but if its in the line of concept art, thats something were lacking at the moment.
