  • Yes, SVG/vector support would be a great idea. I currently use Inkscape almost exclusively for my games. It would be nice not to export everything to PNG.

  • Looks great. Can't wait to play.

  • Fun game. It might just be me, but I think it would feel more natural if the "Take Next Turn Arrow" and "Do Over Button" were switched around. For me, "moving forward" (i.e. taking your next turn) seems better on the right side.

  • Yes, I can confirm this also. Seems like ratings are busted right now.

  • I usually take a gameplay idea and prototype it in Construct 2. Then, if it is fun (at least to me), I expand on the idea and game. After several weeks of long labor of tweaking and testing, I upload it on Scirra Arcade and wait for people to say how awful it is. Finally, when everyone hates my new game, I cry for several hours, eat truckloads of bad food, and try a new gameplay idea. And start the whole process over...

  • Anyway, it seems some chap has made multiple accounts or done something strange, taking the top high score spots on my game, 'Go Faster' (link in my sig). Scores this high are incredible difficult, maybe even impossible - either someone has spent hours and hours playing with multiple accounts just to get the top score (not likely) or they've done some hacking :)

    - did you PM or ask these people if they cheated? I'm sure they would tell you honestly... ;)

  • I do remember being told not to use globals in programming outside of C2, such as Java and C++. Forgot what the reason was now though.

Wasn't it something about taking up too many resources? If all variables are global in C++ code, then that memory will always stay used. Whereas the local variables are created and destroyed as needed.

Not sure if that is 100% right...I only play a programmer on TV!

  • Tom - when reworking the Arcade, can you keep these thoughts in mind? Or perhaps you have even better ideas.

  • Pick to Win has been updated again. This time the fake gems will show how many real gems are touching them. Kinda like how minesweeper works. This should add a new level of strategy.

  • GauntGames - hey, no problem. I know how frustrating it can be when people tell you that your game isn't working correctly, even though it is working fine for yourself. I still don't understand how I can build a game in Construct 2 that works perfectly in my preview browser, but as soon as I upload it to Scirra Arcade, it doesn't work the same way and players think that I made a mistake. Very frustrating.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Yes, I could play the game, but only after hitting refresh a bunch of times. I always tried to login as Guest, and the first few times, it would play music and just show the Gaunt Games splash screen, but would go no further. Finally, after about 5 screen refreshes, I got to the title screen.

  • Nice graphics and music. I was able to control the tractor without any problem. Fun, little game.

  • GauntGames - yeah, sorry, when I go to the game page, I only see a white game screen and hear music. I know that is frustrating, because I bet it works fine for you, right?

  • Pick to Win has been updated with more combos and bonuses which enables higher scores. Also, I tweaked a few things in code and added a few graphical improvements.

  • I rated the game at 3 stars, but gave a 4 to compensate for for the 1 star review.

The issue for me is that while the design and sound were great (As well as a high score edge, I love trying to get points!) I had no idea how I was winning; I sat there for ages trying to find a tell tale hint or difference between the gems but I couldn't work one out!

So for me it just came down to guessing; good game design asks the player a question and rewards them on how they respond, with this my response was the same each time, guess a gem, but it resulted in negative reinforcement as the majority of guesses I made were wrong. That's what makes games unenjoyable, and that might be why someone one star'd it.

That said I obviously enjoyed it, please tell me if there's a knack or trick I'm missing?!

E Bear - hey, I'm happy you took the time to give it a try and a rating you thought was fair. I'm glad you enjoyed part of it. I have updated Pick to Win with more combos and bonuses, so you might want to give it another try for a higher score. The game is definitely based on luck and guessing. There are no tell-tale hints. Each gem is equal in a player's eyes until they start eliminating some. In this way, it is much like sqiddster's latest mini-game, Go Faster, as it is based on randomness and luck, too. Go Faster seems hugely popular due to the fact it is featured and has garnered high ratings.
