Fanatic and Religious Updater

Tom, Ashley, or another experienced member,

Once you've achieved Fanatic or Religious Updater, do you have to skip a day of visiting the site or skip an update to reset the counter, so you can work back through Updater/Dedicated Updater/Religious Updater and Devotee/Dedicated/Fanatic?

I noticed that after I hit Fanatic, I didn't receive an additional Devotee award after 10 days.

Having just hit Religious Updater, if it works the way the Fanatic path appears to, I need to skip an update so I can reset the badge chain. (I "accidentally" installed today's update, so whoops.)
