  • Hey guys. I'm working on a new game and I need some feedback on it. It currently looks like this-

    <img src="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5811650/Repulsion/1.png" border="0">

    It's untitled for now.

    Controls-

You control the ship by the Left mouse button. Click anywhere on the screen to "blow" the ship in the other direction. If you get too fast, press X for brakes. If the ship collides with the walls it bounces off.

Right now, there's just one level in which you fly around collecting coins.

After you've played the games, please take 2 minutes to answer these questions-

    -Is the game too difficult?

-Is the resolution of the game too small? It's the first time I'm making anything that's not 640x480.

-You opinion on the controls. Too sensitive? Too sluggish?

-What about the graphics? It's not placeholder art, but if it looks really bad negative then I'll probably change it.

And maybe something else I didn't ask here.

Here's a screenshot of a basic level editor I'm using for the game-

  • Hi! This is an interesting game, with a unique twist.

Well, I wouldn't say it's impossible. It did take me awhile to understand how to control the rocket, but it is difficult still to control the rocket.

Personally I think the resolutions fine. I think it fits this sort of game.

The controls I doubt are sensitive enough, I found it difficult to get the rocket to go in the right direction. Once again though, that's just my opinion.

I'm no expect in game art, but I also like the graphics, very retro.

  • Hi there! I've had a few plays and i found it very interesting!

    • Not impossible, took some time to get used, but i'm still gettin beaten <img src="smileys/smiley18.gif" border="0" align="middle" />
    • No problems with it, but on a personal note, i'd love a 2x scale option if possible, i just like double pixels. <img src="smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" align="middle" />
    • Could be more responsive at faster speeds, or maybe limit the maximum speed. Right click braking would be convenient too i think.
    • The clean graphics are very nice, keep them. <img src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

btw: why am i having so much trouble to post?

  • Just tried it. It definitely evokes interest! It's one of those "hmm, I'll try just another coin. Right, enough. Ahh, just one more" type of games ;)

    -Is the game too difficult?

I tend to say yes. But then again, I might just be too old for proper reaction times :P

-Is the resolution of the game too small? It's the first time I'm making anything that's not 640x480.

I don't think the resolution is too small. But you shouldn't let that bother you. I feel like this game will work in any size or resolution - as long as the levels are tuned to it.

-You opinion on the controls. Too sensitive? Too sluggish?

Too sensitive the closer you come to the ship. In about 60 pixels distance to the ship it feels comfortable.

-What about the graphics? It's not placeholder art, but if it looks really bad negative then I'll probably change it.

Don't change the style! It is clear, bright, with best contrast. The coins could benefit from a slightly darker color, and I think you could change the rocket to a paper plane (you are already blowing, so would fit), but all this within the current style.

If your goal is to tease the player a bit, then think about restricting the use of the "brakes". This is why:

I answered the first question by saying something about reaction times. In fact, I first had severe difficulties. Later, I just constantly pressed x and had a nice, slow-paced gaming experience :D

  • Thanks for the feedback guys, it's really appreciated. :)

Difficulty- The main game will start with some simplier levels so that players can get comfortable with the controls.

Controls- They need some tweaking, probably a bit more senstive. And change the braking system so it's limited.

Graphics- Since everybody looks satisfied, I'll keep them.

Resolution- Will add an option for changing the resolution.

Well I forgot to mention that the concept of collecting coins was just added for the feedback. It wasn't a part of the main game. Maybe I'll try to add it in the game.

Again guys, thanks for your effort.
