Lol, yeah, it was just a misplaced bracket which was rounding the number before it was multiplied.

Who knows how long I'd have been staring at that before realising it.

    Thanks guys.

Arsonide; the second image is just a tiled background into which I loaded the noise.bmp, and scrolled it with the offset function.

It was just to make sure that it tiled seamlessly when using 1 heightmap (planet size), which it does.

I'm not sure what you're seeing in the screen grab, but there is no scrolling of the image using the plugin at all.

    Thanks again.

Now I'm getting the data I was looking for, I can start having some fun with this.

    Cheers,

    Krush.

  • You should be able to set those options in the adjust perlin action, I will look tonight to make sure. Lower than one on the octaves makes sense, thanks. Higher than eight varies depending on your other settings. I have been up to 10 and 12 octaves at times.

What i mean is as single actions rather than needing to set multiple values together, maybe others might not agree but i would find that useful.

By the way it would also be useful if in the plugins description it said that you need to place the dll in the same location. I know this of course but it's the type of thing that can easily be forgotten (well by me anyway) so it would be like a useful reminder.

  • I can add that to the description. You don't need to change more than one option with the Adjust actions. You can change one, two, or all of them. I did that so the actions wouldn't get cluttered.

However, if I group them all into a Tweak section, it won't be so bad. I'll look into that.

  • Thanks!

  • Wish I had more time to devote to these kind of plugins. Cheers for your hard work arsonide. They're definitely useful right now for other people, and for myself in the future

  • Odd, I added the plugin to my Plugins folder as usual, now when Construct starts, it complains about your plugin

    Error loading C:\Program Files\Scirra\Construct Classic\Plugins\Noise.csx (126) - this plugin may not be available![/code:3191jbw8]

    Using Construct R1-2
  • More than likely libnoise.dll is not in the Construct directory.

  • More than likely libnoise.dll is not in the Construct directory.

What, you expected me to actually read that obscurely named "readme" file? How was I supposed to know to do that!

    Silly me :D

Since this requires a dll and the old perlin plugin does not, if all I need is simple perlin, then the old plugin is the way to go, I assume.

    -----EDIT-----

Spoke too soon. Opening the tutorial file, running the cap gave me "elevatioin: 0" and the arrow keys did nothing. Clicking on the Noise object crashes Construct outright every time.

    Odd.

  • Would it be possible to get the older perlin noise plug still?

I just need some values, therefore I would prefer not to depend on an external library.

I tested the perlin noise plug some time and it fits my needs. Sadly, my computer broke a few weeks ago and I lost most of my data, including that plug.

No problem. I'm going to patch this up soon so that the library is not an external DLL but is integrated with the plugin itself. Just had a lot of stuff going on.

  • Thank you so much! <img src="smileys/smiley20.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • I have updated this plugin to no longer require any tinkering with the DLL. All you have to do is extract from the zip and it'll work out of the box.

This also means you do not need to distribute it with your games. It works just like any other plugin now.

Do keep in mind, however, that you need to extract everything from the "CONSTRUCT" folder in the zip directly to your Construct folder, overwriting the old version. The download link in the original post leads to the new version.

  • Nice, thank you.

  • I am appending this message at the end of all of my threads. A recent discussion with a friend has led me to a conclusion.

Many of you know that my girlfriend went through a very rare form of cancer this year. One which only manifests in 1% of cancer patients, and is four times more likely to kill you. She survived it somehow, but recently the treatment center she was treated at has lost some rooms. If it weren't for that treatment center, she'd be dead right now. We are getting married in two weeks.

A combination of things, including my readings into Buddhism, and my discussion with this friend, has led me to the conclusion that any further donations to any of my plugins are going directly to cancer charities.

Most of you have noticed a few patches recently, and that will continue. I'm patching up the plugins I released this year, and then I'm releasing MUSE. After MUSE I am going to develop a toolkit cap designed to help people make roguelikes much easier, by utilizing all my plugins, as well as helper functions and examples. You can also bet your ass that I'm going to port all of my plugins to Construct 2 when it gets an OpenGL runtime.

So your donations will encourage this further development, and assist in cancer research. The link is in the original post. That is all I have to say.
