How do i convert a cordova plugin to an npm package?

Hi, guys, I want a Cordova plugin whitelisted on the build server but I need to make it an npm package first how do I do this? I have been told to read npm docs but its unclear. All the tutorials for creating npm packages are for starting from scratch how do I make an existing Cordova plugin an npm package??
