How do I make it so you can only place an X or an O where the cursor is?

I made a real-time tic-tac-toe but i ran into an issue that allows the player to place an X or an O even though their opponent's cursor is occupying the space. While, you should be able to overwrite an X with an O and vice-versa you shouldn't be able to do that without putting the cursor on the spot. Did you make that logic? You should know how to solve this if you made it, I tried to work it out and it alters your position variable when you hold a key down it allows you to place on the position held by the player, so you need to work out when that is happening and disable the space or shift key.

i actually had some help on the logic but i figured i needed to find out where exactly the variable is being altered.
