How do I click and move through layers in editor?

So I took the guided tour online to check C3 out and honestly, this feels like the biggest abomination of user interface I have seen in decades of computer use. I finally found that tab+click selects through initial layer. How did that happen instead of ctrl + click? Anyway as soon as I try to move something that way, it reverts to selecting top layer. So the question is how do I select and move something that is not the top layer?

Do you mean you're having trouble selecting objects that are on top of each other? You can lock certain layers so objects on that layer won't be selected.
