C3 in ipad pro?

  • Please correct me if i'm just an ignorant, since c3 is now working as a browser based engine and able to function on mac, can this be accessed on ipad pro and with cloud based assets saved there? just wondering. i know it sucks with ipads to be marketed as "mini computers" but all it can do are straightforward consumer "boxed" functions. So i'm imagining how c3 can be used in ipad pro or there are plans. (as this is the only thing i have for now) sometimes i regret buying this over surface pro 4. I'm now intrigued to try it now on my ipad pro when i arrive home. it will be lovely if i can design game (with ready to get assets of course from my cloud server or whatever work process i may come up with) on the go while on a cozy coffee shop after my day job- i get the usual inspiration if i go to "out" not on usual work spot.

    another issue if it may work with ipad pro, what would I use as mouse? will future plans will have . "tablet/touch screen friendly option for cs3"?

  • It would work if Apple either allowed other browser engines than Safari (Chrome and Firefox are just skins over Safari because Apple specifically ban their browser engines), or kept Safari up-to-date with modern web features. Since they do neither we can't run Construct 3 on iOS at the moment. Hopefully we can support it in future if Safari catches up.

  • Chrome running on iOS is pretty much out of the question, because of privacy concerns and Google's collection methods. Unless C3 is sold through the App Store anyway, you aren't going to get a lot of iOS users paying for C3 or even knowing about it. iOS is a closed platform and most people find apps through the App Store.

    There's already a game engine on iOS called HyperPad, if you are interested. They are absolutely horrible with marketing and branding though, so few people even know about them. Their logo (app icon) doesn't indicated at all that it's game making software. iOS users are weary of scammers, and one common indication of that is a generic app icon and stolen screenshots from other apps. Even their company name is pretty awful, UntitledD. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing"> But, it's good software though. I tried it out a couple years ago. They made a lot of updates since then. Have a look:

  • oh, man. I"m now regretting my ipad pro. I bought it as i love sketching and painting. But what i noticed, i have my laptop with me which is massive, ( i got a gaming laptop which is ROG g series, one of the first generation bulky ones). I noticed the surface pro 4 should've do the job, as i can work on the go (just imagine going to a quiet cafe and spend your afternoons there encoding your games. we need that "escape" sometimes to think of ideas) I just hate that ipad pro feels like "unprofessional" well, this topic is for c3 but i think we can discuss the workflows right?

    What if we develop an app for ipad pro? but nah, it's still unconvenient and its kinda not practical. if only it's possible. if only i can trade off my ipad pro for sf 4 haha what matters for me now is the workflow. C3 DID A PRETTY NEAT STUFF now, making it browser based now.

  • I think C3 has good potential to be an awesome development tool on tablet type devices. I'm using a Surface Pro 4, but even if C3 runs well on it, it's not yet optimized for use with touch/stylus, so even if it runs, you're still bound to a desk with mouse and keyboard, because of some minor issues. So far these are some of the issues I have at the moment, that I hope will be resolved soon (I filed bugs for most of the touch/stylus related problems)

    * Touch & Stylus, not working well for manipulating objects and zooming/scrolling in layout.

    * Stylus has problems with interactions like double clicking etc. (Chrome/Browser issue)

    * Clicking with stylus in input boxes does not open the touch keyboard. (Works with touch though)

    I guess multiplatform support with C3 does not include tablet type devices yet. Some if the issues are browser specific issues, that works well in Edge, but does not work in chrome. So for now don't plan on making games on a tablet, unless you have a keyboard and mouse with you

    So far I'm still using C2, until these issues are resolved. C2 works surprisingly well with touch/stylus, even though I think it was never intended or even designed to work that way.

    I hope we get more voices heard so the scirra team can invest in some tablet devices and start doing some proper design towards users who hate sitting at desks and/or bulky laptops :p

    is surface pro 4 a winner in using c2? i think its going to be a good investment. also, planning to have lenovo pad (the one with stylus, newly launched)

    Yeah I like it a lot. But that's mainly because i can do sketching, artwork, use C2, test the mobile games directly in preview, all on one device, without having to sit at a desk. I sit at a desk 8 hours per day at work, so it's nice to work on the sofa when I get back home :p

    Personally ,,, and I love my surface pro for all the reasons tunepunk says..... the stylus is totally awesome for drawing and taking notes..... and I love that the device is really powerfull but.....;.

    ....it can be a pain using touch, and especially stylus, with C2 on the surface pro. there are loads of little quirks that make it tiresome after a while.. for me anyway. Also with regards to C3, chrome is not playing well with touch on windows / desktop, on surface devices anyway.

    however I do do exactly as you saying and set up the surface pro at my local quiet cafe while my kids are at gymnastics on Saturday mornings, but I do this with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse so you could just as well use a laptop of some kind anyway,

    what I am really thinking is that...

    C3 is starting to look very usable and robust on android chrome right now....

    .. and unless you are specifically looking for real stylus support then....

    (assuming web gl compatibility and performance) any half decent, large android tablet with C3 , or one of the transforming chromebooks, might be the best solution going forward

    (unless google fix touch on desktop/windows chrome which they dont seem to be in any rush to do)
