  • Hi I’ve had a quick scout and I can’t find anything quite what I’m looking for but if there are forum posts already like what I’m about to ask then I do apologize and please point me in that direction…

I am a hobbyist who would like to become an indie game dev someday, but with that said at the moment I have casually over the past few years followed many unity tutorials and got reasonably good with C#.

After the recent unity 💩💩💩💩 show I’m looking at alternative engines and I’m curious to see how good game maker is for my specific needs.

My intention is to make F2P casual mobile games including Infinite Runners and I’m struggling to find what exactly are the types of mobile games game maker can actually make, and how limited is the GML programming language.

What would you say is the main reason especially if other unity devs see this, would you rather use construct 3 over unity other than the obvious bs fees they tried and management.

Can construct 3 be used to make F2P mobile games with in app purchases etc?

Also on a side note since Construct 3, game maker and defold look great as well I'm wondering if anyone has experience with these engines as well.

    Thanks

  • Construct is a very capable 2D engine, you can take a look at this game we recently released, it's 100% made in C3.

I haven't used Unity, but I heard that certain routine operations (like adding new sprites, animations etc.) are much easier and faster to do in C3, than in Unity.

C3 is an almost perfect engine for casual mobile games. Unfortunately, when it comes to monetization (ads, IAPs), its official plugins are barely adequate. You will probably need to purchase 3rd party addons, for example this collection.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • game maker ... the GML programming language

Umm... welcome to the Construct forums!

If you're interested in coding, Construct supports coding in JavaScript, which is a far more advanced programming language than GML and also means you're learning skills you can use elsewhere in the industry - such as getting a job, or using other frameworks like node.js. We also just recently added support for TypeScript in the latest beta releases which adds static typing - see Using TypeScript in Construct for more on that.

Thank you, and thanks for sharing the add on and that it will be required, very helpful.

Ops I meant what are people's experiences in using javascript for making a game compared to something like GML.

Is there a limitation to what kind of 2d games construct 3 can make or with the engine in general?

    What are the main strengths

    Thanks

Nothing's wrong about comparing different game engines of course, but that explains the question about GML :)
