  • Hello,

We are one of the unlucky ones who purchased Construct 3 after Construct 2 licenses are no longer available. Unfortunately this is causing no end of headaches for us. There is so much content published under Construct 2 that doesn't import properly into Construct 3 without the ability to open the capx files under Construct 2 and make modifications.

In many cases the authors of these Construct 2 projects have lost interest or support has sunsetted for games that we have licensed, and working with the original authors can be slow and cumbersome.

We contacted support and were told there is nothing that can be done, but I really think that there should be a way to issue Construct 2 license codes to Construct 3 users until it is officially done in July. This would give people time to convert old projects.

I can't be the only one with this problem.

  • Why? Are you using third part plugins?

  • Virtually all Construct 2 content using official features should port in to Construct 3 with no problems at all. We've worked hard to ensure there is excellent backwards compatibility right the way back to the earliest versions of Construct 2.

If you have trouble importing content, usually it's because it depends on third-party addons that were not ported to C3. I'm afraid these addons are the responsibility of their respective developers, so you'll need to contact them for support.

Remember that any time you rely on third-party developers, you may need them for help and support for years to come. You may wish to research reliable third-party developers who are willing to provide long-term support - and note since that involves potentially a lot of work over time, you may need to pay them for that.

  • Yes, I am talking about third party modules. Our situation is that we have in house developers that could make the modifications we need to the Construct 2 projects, but since we cannot get licensing we are unable to do that. This is creating a situation where older games may be left abandoned since the original authors have moved on. We have been able to work with some who are still publishing content to get their help, but not everyone still supports their products after they have been on the market for years.

It doesn't seem very intuitive to not support a path forward to publishers like ourselves who are willing to pay for Construct 3 moving forward. I totally understand the need to sunset v2 but during this gap period it makes it difficult for content publishers who are utilizing Construct 2 projects without access to the ability to update to v3.

Another issue is there are a large number of purchasable Construct 2 titles on various sites that are basically going to be abandonware if they can't be opened or manipulated in Construct 3. Are we going to go through this again when Construct 4 comes out? My point is that it would be nice if there was a better upgrade solution in new versions other than "Sorry you can't load this any more."

  • We do have a very good upgrade path for projects using official features. However I'm afraid we can't be held responsible for whether or not third-party developers are still supporting their work or not. We've held up our end of the bargain, it's up to third-party developers to hold up theirs.
