3d for 2d art?

For my projects, at past, I used images from stock market or hired freelancer, because I do not know draw, but with some 3d software(for example Blender) we can make all props and background, with low poly right?

And if we go further, I tested and Iclone character creator, very fast making custom any character, so does somebody using 3d software for 2d?

This is very common in the industry, especially for games with isometric views. From StarCraft to Factorio, isometric sprites are usually created in 3d software and then exported as 2d sprites.
