use variable of instance ID stored in a variable

The title is messed up... But I have a problem.

I want to store the unique ID of an instance in a variable, and then use that variable to get the position of the instance whom ID is stored.

I know how to store the other instances ID, but when I want to use it I get an error saying my variable isn't an object name. I don't want it to be an object name!

Your answer is probably to use a condition "sprite: compare instance variable".

I know I could just copy the X-position onto another object. But if I want to use alot of different instances of the same object, and lots of variables, this will be a pain.

Is there any way of using what I like to call owners?
