How to stop C2 from changing variable instances' name?

Hello

I've created a variable in the wrong layout, so I want to move it to a different layout. But when I try to delete it and recreate it there, everything I wrote containing this variable gets deleted. Tried to change its name but everything's changes according to the new name and so on...

Is there a way to change a variable's name without causing all events that use it to change also?

Is this a global variable, a local variable, or an instance variable? When you say in the wrong layout, do you mean the wrong event sheet? Even better, do you have a capx you can share to help get a better picture of what the problem is?
