  • How to make a video intro for your game...

Dear friend i have found a solution..not new i think but yet powerfull ..without using the video plugin...

The solution is simple... you can use an animated gif for your Intro presentation and add your favorite

    soundtrack..

    My suggestion is:

    -1 Create a video in mp4 about 400x300 pixels....

-2 Convert From mp4 to gif here: http://www.zamzar.com/

-3 Optimize your gif here: http://ezgif.com/optimize choose heavy optimization or what you want

-4 Then Import in construct2 your Final gif as Sprite.but inside...as animation..

    -5 Then import your Soundtrack...

    In construct2:

create event sheet and layout... Trim the speed of gif in the window sprite that you want....

    In event Sheet create

--> System:On start of Layout: play sound not looping

: Set Visible (put here your gif created)

: set animation to "yours animations name gif"(play from beginning)

--> yournamegif:On animation"yours animations name gif" finished: Go to (the layout that you want).

    In Layout

Place your gif when you want or in the center of the screen...

    That's all....

  • Thanks.

But the size of the images will be huge.

  • Avoiding using the video plugin is not something anyone should recommand, also an animated gif? And then a frame by frame animation?? No, just No, that will not work as expected, will increase the download size, and can cause a lot more issues in the end on mobile devices and even on PC depending on how much images and how big they are.

If you want to avoid the video plugin, say why, avoiding existing features with those kind of badly designed workarounds will always be Agaisnt everything I teach people about.

  • Sounds like a bad idea, but my friend who used to work at one of the top 5 most visited websites in the world, told us they implemented streaming images as video too! No sound though...

  • Hi to everybody ,

I'm sorry...i have told you this idea..because i have problem with video plugin, because it don't work with android intel sdk crosswolk...and also in coocunjs ..the video plug-in inside scirra don't work on android mobile...so i have told you this idea..

From a video of 400x300 pixel after it process described before from original mp4 of 1600kb is become to gif with 3600kb, that is good...

In preview over wi-fi my gif works fine ..about 30 seconds with about 334 frames and then i have added the soundtrack...

In truth i must try to compile with android crosswalk....i will tell you later my experiment....

    bye,

  • There many ways to make intro for your game, 334 frames is to much.

Check the Viktor game intro made by few images and some text

Or AirScape game intro made by sprites.

  • Dear A0Nasser,

can you post the links please to that??? I did't find it..... Thanks A Lot...

  • Bad bad idea if you have not enough memory

  • From a video of 400x300 pixel after it process described before from original mp4 of 1600kb is become to gif with 3600kb, that is good...

In preview over wi-fi my gif works fine ..about 30 seconds with about 334 frames and then i have added the soundtrack...

Simple calculation based on this info:

    334 (frames) x 400 (pixels width) x 300 (pixels height) x 4 (bytes per pixel) = 160.320.000 bytes = 160 Mb of image memory for this animation.

I think this explains why this is a very bad idea..

  • Dear friend,

    i have tested myself....

    Create a video in mp4 about 400x300 pixels....but the size should be 1,6Mb (H.264)

Ok now you should Convert From mp4 to gif here: http://www.zamzar.com/ and became 5,5mb if i don't make errors,

Then you should Optimize your gif here: http://ezgif.com/optimize choose heavy optimization or what you want....and the gif became with this program.... 3,2Mb... that is enough.....Ok.....

OK ... The quality is not the best... but work fine.....

That is the size of the file, but not the amount of graphic memory that will be needed.

In memory all files are completely decompressed, so while a small image file may be helpfull for downloading, while playing it's size is not related to that but to the actual image size in pixels times 4 bytes (R,G,B,alpha).

  • Dear LittleStain,

I'm sorry about that....i don't know about the amount of memory needed....

Do you have another idea...to make a video intro supported for mobile android crosswalk and coocunjs?? Because i have made this solution to bypass the VIDEO PLUGIN...that don't work for mobile...

    Any Idea???

    Best regards,

  • Seems inefficient.

  • That is only the file size of the animation, not how much memory it consumes. at RUNTIME the video will occupy 160mb of storage.

Despite everyone telling you not to do it, I don't see a problem with it. By the time the animation is over the layout will change and the ram will be released. Just be mindful not too over do too many resources in any one layout.

  • To the OP, ashley just said on twitter something about videos not rendering on chrome for android and crosswalk, and that a workaround will be implemented in the mean time in the next beta, so when r185 is out, could you try it?
