Make A simple Menu???

Hello wonderful community, I need your help, cause I am still a noob at Construct....

I want to create a simple menu so that when the player dies, the game remains or pauses on that screen and a box pops up on the same screen(retry button,Rate, ect..) and I cant seem to do that...for some reason its not working...

I found an example showing how but when for some reason I cant get it..A simple menu example would be great if any one of you Construct Wizards can help myself and the community out

You can use spawn object (sprite) when player dies and put on spawned sprite buttons to act as menu

Second way, You can make a layer with buttons and set it on start as Invisible and then if player dies set this layer visible. With this matter limitation is only your creativity.
