How do I Make four directional animations?

This is a question for all the artists out there, I am trying to make a action RPG with inspiration from the up coming game Hyper Light Drifter. I am trying to draw and animate four directional movement and cant seem to get a grasp of the angels of movement for the main character and the enemies.

My mistake not read the whole quest you was asking for. I think you may find any kind of tutorials on deviantart.
