How do I create a mechanism like bloxx

Hello guys

I have been trying to figure how can make a mechanism like bloxx but a fail . I have two problem 1. having a problem to make the stack of boxes and 2. horizontally mechanism to move box left and right and when press a key to release. Thanks in advance!

Physics is another way to go, but I prefer the manual method since they can be maintained and controlled easily.
