How do I create better particles

So few days ago I've started playing this game and I really like the partcles when something get's destroyed.

I would really like to implement something like them in my game. Any suggestions on how to get that working?

I'd suggest using Particles..

You are going to have to play a little/lot with the settings to get the effect you want..
