The thing that hints that this is a Construct 2 problem, is that every file in the program folder, and only those, were replaced by unreadable files. No other file on the HD was affected.
Dead/failing sectors on the hardrive could be the cause to files becoming corrupted.
Also what is the OS on your computer ?
Nevertheless the fact that it happened on two different PCs is strange. I'd be tempted to think, as you noted, that the files were copied after being corrupted.
Did you have to restart your computer like shomaster during some file access (in shomaster's case, I'd think the harddrive was being accessed since he tried to edit the textures of a sprite) ?
I've seen others complaining about corrupted files in the past, but I think it was a bug in a previous version that you've already fixed.
Indeed. The previous fils corruption were fixed quite a while ago, and I don't think they touched the whole files of the folder anyway, in your case it sounds like a different problem.
I am keeping all sorts of backups now:)

About shomaster's case, the fact that windows itself hanged is quite concerning, but I wouldn't necessary put the blame on C2 for it.
I don't know if it really makes a difference, but perhaps using the 64bits version of C2 in a 64bits win7 would make for more stability.
Are your various drivers up to date ? Are you experiencing freezes/need to restart with others programs ? with the windows explorer ?
